Curious in what to expect as far as test go seeing a neurological specialist at northwestern hospital

Is this your first visit there? First neuromuscular opinion? How was it booked? As a consult/ 2nd opinion?

Definitely read the sticky on 2nd opinions at the top of this subforum.

Every place does things differently. My experience was that I was seen first by the fellow who did a detailed history and exam, and presented her findings along with the relevant medical records to the attending who then also asked questions and did an exam then told me her thoughts and plan. I would expect an assistant would see you first of all and take basic info and do a screening breathing test.

Do not be surprised if another EMG is ordered as a lot of places do not want to rely on outside emg results unless they happen to know that person's work really well

Brad have you actually been diagnosed with ALS yet or is that why you are seeing a neuromuscular specialist?

No that is why I am going

Ok I am confused. You originally told us that were diagnosed in 2012 but due to lack of progression question that and are seeking a neuromuscular second opinion. Can you please clarify? Thank you

Sorry I did back in 2012 the said benign the reason I going Monday is I raspy voice for a month no improvement so my doctor set up this appointment because he finds nothing wrong in my thoart he believes neurological

Sorry still unclear was the original diagnosis rescinded by a neurologist? Are you currently diagnosed and hoping wrong or undiagnosed and being seen for a symptom?

Yes the neurological specialist said no the original nuero I saw said she thought so do sent me to see a special ist at northwestern and that was because of bodywide fascilations and something she said about my reflexes

Ok thanks for clarifying. This has been moved to the undiagnosed section where hopefully you will be able to stay!

If you are going for a possible diagnosis it is quite likely they will order tests after the visit unless your history and exam are clearly ok

Brad would you mind changing your profile as it says you are diagnosed, and yep you've been saying that for four years.

Click on userCP above.

All the best with your appt.

Bulbar als is the official diagnosis sorry took so long to get back dealing with a lot of anger issues

I am very sorry. You certainly have had a strange journey and seems as if you can hope for a slow progression. Look into nuedexta which has reportedly benefited those with bulbar
