Let me preface this by saying how appreciative of any responses I might get. To those on this site affected by als, you are in my prayers every night. You're determination and unwillingness to quit is an inspiration. We lost a good family friend to als and I have a rudementary understanding of the struggles you all mus experience on a daily basis.

I apologize for the lengthy discourse about to happen...

I have recently started Having some scary syptoms. (Here it comes the styerotipcal twitching comment.) yes I had twitching. I am an emt and my best friend is in med school and I help her study every day. I went to a nuero and spoke with a pa. She reviewed some blood tests and determined I most likely had been severely vit d deficient. I was given a medical grade dosage of vit d for 8 weeks. I thought the twitching had improved some but then it seemed to have returned and much worse. What had started in my eye and right calf had spread to every extremity including my trunk. So here's my concerns.

1.) my right knee buckles...not on a routine basis but here and there. I had an IT band overuse injury in highschool and it had buckled here and there in highschool however coupled with the twitching (and following symptoms) it now has my attention.

2.) left shoulder pain/tenderness and extreme muscle fatigue. I can do the same things my right shoulder can. I have a kayak(38lbs) and I can shoulder press it on both sides, but the left has weird almost electrical sensations and pain. This fatigue and tenderness is consistent throughout the day for the most part, and sometimes it feels rubbery.

3.) left hand tremor when holding things. Weight is not an issue, I can lift the same things my right can but the left hand will tremor on occasion.

4.) (i understand this is most likely not a symptom of als once so ever however I seek any opinion on the issue.) feeling of warmth in my left foot. Happens on occasion with or without a shoe on.

I had met with the nuero himself this week. To find out they scheduled me with the wrong specialist! He is an epilepsy specialist and was unable to really give me the feedback I needed. He reviewed my MRI (but made no comments good or bad.) he tested me for signs of CLINICAL weakness. Now here is where anxiety kicked in and I lost my rational perspective. He said "I see no signs of clinical weakness you're actually quite strong, however I don't know where you were as a baseline for your strength prior to these symptoms." So in my head I think...what?! What does that mean. I have read and read the threads posted here and on other sites which clearly state "no clinical weakness=no als" but with what the nuero said I'm very rattled. He concluded the apt. With "I think we should leave no leaf unturned and do an emg" only to find out they're booked til sept 25th. So now without any real direction I'm seeking the OPINION (fully understand and not looking for a diagnoses simply feedback from you guys.) what's the odds of this bein als. Yes I understand the math .001 percent for my age group and I take some comfort from that..but from what I described insight can anyone offer?? Honestly, death or a diagnoses of als does not freighten me. I'm firmly grounded in my faith, (not trying to get preachy on anyone promise) however this personal belief brings me comfort. What scares me is the realm of the unknown, which I currently feel trapped in. Finally in conclusion (and I apologize for the length of this post..) I promise to you all I shall not bug you. It personally upsets me to see people's anxiety dumped upon you guys after everything you deal with. I understand to an extent that this is also what I am doing now..however if It had not been for this elusive, hazy, strange nuero appointment I wouldn't have posted here in this manner. So I do apologize for that.

Please read the sticky labelled "READ BEFORE POSTING". It will answer your questions.

Twitching, perceived weakness, tremors, sore muscles, warm appendages, etc, do not point to ALS.

I did thank you again I apologize for posting with all this anxiety, just trying to see if there is any legit reason to worry. Everyone i love is out of the country on a trip and unable to console me or listen to me. I was trying to get any insight possible.

Perhaps you missed this part:
Twitching, perceived weakness, tremors, sore muscles, warm appendages, etc, do not point to ALS.

Insight given! 8^)
