Hello,
I have come back to seek advice and possibly some thoughts on my situation.
Here is my initial post:
Hello,
I had a bout of twitching in my 20's that lasted 1 year and things have been fine for the past 15 years. now I am 41 and had some twitching in my right shoulder one evening while watching TV. The next day I had twitching everywhere - no doubt anxiety played a role in this. Within 2 days from that my right leg felt heavy and weaker then my left. I have twitching in my calves, feet thighs and arms and hands and buttocks at the moment and it has been one month since this started. it feels like I have small bubbles popping in my feet all the time but mostly when I am driving or resting. I am extremely worried about what is going on and have fallen into the fear that it may be ALS. My doc is thinking it is just stress but I really don't have any aside from what is going on. I do have some pain in my Thenar muscle on the right hand and it seems to be smaller then the right side. my right leg seems to tire from simply walking up the stairs and it seems to have an odd sensation in it - like a slight aching. also, the other day my left index finger started to twitch sideways slamming into the finger beside it this lasted for only a minute or so. I am hoping someone can offer some advice as to what may be happening as my doc finally referred me to a neurologist after I practically begged him. My Anxiety seems to be getting the better of me at the moment as all I can think bout id my daughter growing up without a father
Thanks for listening and hoping to hear your thoughts on this.
--------------------------------------------------------------

So after posting there was no improvement. I had NCS/EMG ordered by my GP.
The neurologist that performed them said everything looked normal and suggested that my condition is BFS which I gladly accepted. This test was done in July 2015, my symptoms started in March. Fast forward to today and I have little faith in my right leg. My GP noted atrophy on the leg last week. About 4 inches above my knee there is a horizontal void with no muscle in it. He also noted that the outer quad muscle on my right leg was smaller then the left leg and said that was atrophy also. I have stronger twitching in the thigh now but it is not continuous. When I couch i get lots of small twitches in my abdomen and when driving to work I get strong twitching in my lower abdomen. There are some strong twitches that usually subside within a few minutes and there are some I can't feel but can see. I still have random twitching allover my body face and scalp but have some sensory issues as well. The leg I am having the most issues with sometimes feels like it gets hot - foot also then the feeling goes away but the whole leg feels achy in general. I get random short term headaches, wake up exhausted like I had not slept and when resting with my legs up in my reclining sofa I feel what seems to be tightness and a vibration in the left calf as if there were hundreds of really small twitches happening continuously.
My GP has again asked the neuro to see me ASAP and he has said he has no idea what it could be but that MND would be possibility because he doesn't know of anything else that would cause twitching weakness and atrophy.
So here I am terrified again. My wife is panicing and I guess I am hoping to hear again that this does not sound like ALS ... does it?

As you've been here before I assume you were referred to the sticky titled PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.

In it you will have seen that twitching is far too common to be diagnostic of anything.
You will also see that the sensory issues (pain, bubbles) are not associated with ALS onset.
Finally, a clean emg was a good thing.

You've got something going on so follow thru on the Doc appointments.

Yes. Thank you Greg.
I have read the stickies a few times over.
The twitching is much less of a concern right now than the atrophy in my thigh. It looks like someone took an ice cream scoop and dragged it across my leg and my doc mentioning that this with the twitching is cause for concern.
Thank you for your reply I appreciate your insight.

In ALS, atrophy occurs AFTER the muscles have been limp, useless, and paralyzed for many weeks or months.

Thank you. That's what worries me. There is a part of the muscle above my knee that hasent flexed for a while now. That is where there is a deep impression in the quad muscle. I can still walk although I constantly feel as if my knee is about to give out. There is a persistent ache in that leg and the twitches have gotten stronger but are not constant. They come and go. I have an appointment in December with a neuromuscular specialist and I hope to hear more news then.
