Hi all. Firstly, if you are reading this I am extremely grateful. The sticky says a lot but I have a few further questions. In July I started with pins and needles/tingling in my feet which soon progressed to my hands.

Two weeks ago I started with muscle cramps in thighs and calves and a very stiff shoulder/neck area. In addition I have twitching, not often but enough times a day to notice it. Primarily in legs but ultimately all over my body. My muscles ache and I have cramp in my legs and I have, on more than one occasion, woken up twitching. I am also finding walking difficult, like I dont have control of my legs. In addition, swallowing is odd, I am finding it more difficult, like there is constantly thick phlegm in thre throat.

My doctor does not seem concerned as in august I saw a neuro who deemed my clinical obs to be okay and my head/neck mri was clear. However, given the change in symptoms since then, my questions are: does this sound like als/mnd? And should I go back to a neuro?

Any advice/input would be great.

Thank you

Relax Jmmy, you didn't describe ALS at all. You should ask your family physician to investigate this.
ALS doesn't cause sensory complaints like pins and needles. All your symptoms could easily be something else. Twitches are common, and ALS is rare. There's no reason to be thinking about ALS. See your family physician.

Thanks atsugi for your prompt response. Much appreciated. Having 'hung around' the forum for a week I note you are someone who provides clear, informative responses. Even to DIHALS! Every credit to you.

Having read up on BFS, my symptoms may be more aligned to that given the painful muscle cramps and burning sensations/pins and needles I have been feeling. I am also suffering with some mild shaking. I have arranged a neuro appt because those guys are best positioned to assess me. I think when your mobility is affected to any degree it always causes concern. Thanks again for reading and for the useful resource you have created by all partaking in this forum.

Hi there. I think I am having a wobble as I cant get away from the fact that I have twitching, muscle cramp and weak/tired limbs as well az difficulty swallowing which seem to be key early warning signs of motor neurone disease. Would you expect all these symptoms to show at once? Or is my anxious mind in overdrive?

Apologies for any frustration this post may cause.

Your anxiety needs to be controlled. See your family physician MD. They are trained and experienced in investigating health problems and sending you to whatever specialist might be required.
