Hi everyone there !

I,m one more guy who came here to found if anything of my symptoms could be related to AlS.

First thing, i,m sorry about two things:

1) my so-so which is not my first language (french is !)

2) sorry abouit all you who really got Als, I feel a bit akward to ask you about my symptoms.

here's the story. For about One year now I start jogging, wwell I should say I've try to jog. each time I run afet 7-8 minutes i've got a strong burning sensation in both shins regions which make me stop running. walking a bit ease the pain. For about a year it's been that way, exercice 2-3 times a week doesn't help to relieve that burning sensation.

Now for 3-4 months i see flash of light many times a day (2-3 seconds each time) and the doesn't seems to be correlated to any specific movement.

For about 1 month I've got intense back pain that seems to move (sometimes it's on my left side, sometimes, right, sometimes mid back sometime lower in the hips). I also got legs cramps and somes fasciculation in the thigh of my left leg.

I also got a strange burning pain in my calves when i'm kneeling, it's kind of an intense burning pain on the side of my calf.

The things that worry me the most is that when I do the the test for the hoffman sign it seems to be positive on the right side (the left doesn't seem) . I,ve asj my girlfriend to do it on me and it still positive. other thing, the babinski sinsg seems to be also present on my right foot (my girlfriend refuse to do it to me, she said the only sign i've got, is a mental one and that is call being hypocondriac). The big toe sometimes move up and the others toes fans a bit.

Last thing, my right calf doesn't have the same size (2-3 cm less) and form than my left calf.

Could anyone guide me around this ?

Thanks a lot !

You can rest assured you do not have ALS. ALS is not about pain at least physically. Do yourself a favor and see your doctor. I don't even think Doctor Google would point your symptoms to AlS.

Your girlfriend is a keeper. She's spot on.
Do see a doctor, and trust them to give you answers, not the internet.
All the best, Janelle

As above nothing sounds like ALS and see a doctor. You can not check yourself for a babinski sign. One ALS specialist has told me that if you even know what it is is not a reliable sign. And he never lets me look when checking reflexes as he thinks that affects it too. And a hoffmann sign can be a normal variant even if your gf is a doctor.

Thanks for your ansers, they are reassuring... a bit ! Since everyone of you told me to go see a doctor I guess that you think there's something wrong with my situation. Coulf anyone have any clue about this ?

What bring me here first (beside the pain that i've described in my initial post), is a post from a member i've stepped into when i've look for ''first symptoms ALS). That guy told that many time the wekness from ALS come first in shins and hips region. Exactly where my pain is. Also this guy remember that for years before getting ALS diagnostic he felt burning sensation when he rise his arms and that he wasn't able to let them rise for long time because of that burning pain/sensation ...I also get that for many years. Last thing he told is that he remember getting a bout of fascuculation about 10-15 years agao...same here for me.

Add this the fact that my right calf (and i'm a righty) is 1 inch less than my left you will understand the fear that seems to take over from for a couple of days .

Thanks once again

No we have no idea what is happening.

This is a site for ALS and we know it incredibly well. You've had answers from very knowledgable people who have assured you that your symptoms are not what happens in ALS, so it's time to go to a doctor and ask what they think, rather than trying to diagnose yourself with a very rare fatal disease.

All the best

Ok , you've made yourself perfectly clear !

Two last questions:

1) in ALS what come first ? Muscular weakness or atrophy ?
2) In the Sticky theres something about size difference between two limbs. It's tols that small difference is something normal. What would be that normal smal difference for calf and thight ? Is 1-2 cm for calf and 2-3 cm for thigh is too much ?

Thanks once again !

tostaky hon go see a doctor.

You want to check your own reflexes and you can't. You want to compare limbs for atrophy, you can't.

You must get checked by a doctor who can start to figure out what, if anything, is actually going on (clinical symptoms v your anxiety and feeling). You certainly have a high anxiety level and your doctor can help you with this - it's a very real concern that is treatable.

Our stickies answer all your questions and we stand by what is written in them. Please don't ask us to continue spending time answering what is in there for you to read. We need our time to support those who are battling this terminal illness.

I believe that you need to stop asking questions here now for your own sake.

All the best with your doctor
