Hi guys I know I may be panicking a bit here and assuming the worst but I am genuinely concerned for my health for the first time ever and no doctors are giving me answers.

It started about 2 weeks ago (im sure some of you are rolling your eyes, im sorry), I did a leg day and hit it pretty hard on friday the 31st woke up the next day (saturday 1st) with general soreness but more so in the left calf. It did feel like a possible tear but not that bad so it may be a minor grade 1. However that night I got up to go to the toilet when I could slowly feel my calf gradually getting tighter. After a few steps my calves went rock solid and my toes curled over locking. I was unable to stretch it and I fell to the ground panicking and calling out to my girlfriend, however it relaxed within seconds. The strange thing is I felt no pain just the discomfort of my leg locking and not relaxing and my weight on my curled over toes.

I went to see my GP Dr. ken on the Tuesday 9th after having this multiple times on the Monday 10th ( 8 times). Tuesday proved to be similar happening 10 times. He got me to do a blood test on the Wednesday and analysed my reflexes, strength and symptoms. He saw no problems. By Wednesday it went up another level 15 times. still waiting on blood results my mum took me to hospital where I was seen again by a sepearte doctor he performed much the same things as th GP and took a blood test there and then. It came back with minor dehydration and higher amino acids. I was advised to drink more water and the probable cause was a calf injury causing the cramping And my reflexes were slower but not abnormally slow.

I went back to my GP on the thursday where he had my initial blood test results which showed high enzymes. He referred me to a specialist neurologist whom I would see the following wednesday 11th. He once again did much the same thing except observesd my muscle more and checked my posture. This time when he was tapping my reflexes he commented that they were very sensitive? Contradicting the hospital doctor. He then said I should book in for an EMG which I will be attending to see how my muscle reacts to things.

This is my best way of describing what happens. I will be relaxing sitting or lying. I will get up and I can feel it coming on a tightening and tighening until it locks and relaxes after a few seconds. It also happens when I roll over in bed occasionally.

Ive also taken notea of the cramping trend frequency since its beginning (letters representing days);

S (1st) -1 Su - 5 Mo - 8 Tue - 10 We - 15 Thu - 12 Fri - 8
Sat (8th) - 7 Su - 9 Mo - 5 Tu - 5 We - 3 Th - 3 Fri - 2

Sat (14th) - 4 Su - 5

As you can see my cramps seem to be downward trending other than a spike over the weekend. but with my EMG a week away im very anxious. Ive been told to also take Magnesium but the doctors havent hinted once other than the one at the hospital at what a possible cause is. sorry if this was a waste of your time but im pretty stressed and cant sleep. Feels good just to discuss it and also hopefully learn a thing or to about a disease I had only heard of recently.

Well it sounds nothing like any ALS onset I have ever heard of. I honestly don't know what to say except EMGs are for lots of things not just MND and please read the sticky. And drink fluids, allow your leg to heal and take Magnesium if the doctor said to.

You're words here have brought me more comfort then you can imagine Nikki! I did have a read of the stickys out of respect and even though I wasnt diagnosed with hyperflexia the startledness on the neurologists face at my reflexes disheartened me.

I appreciate your quick response. And wish you all the vbestvery best Feels like I can sleep easy now :) thank you.

Hyper reflexes are common when you are a bit anxious glad you feel reassured. Take care
