Hi everyone,

I posted a while ago and I promise this will be my last visit if you could take a minute to reply, I would be so grateful. I saw a counsellor as advised and she fast tracked a request to the gp to see a neurologist as I was so distressed. I got an EMG about 10 days ago due to constant twitching of my toe / feeling weak / odd in my foot mainly. The consultant neurophysiologist did the needles in my hand, arm and top leg and bottom leg on one side as well as nerve conduction test in my hand / arm. I asked if he needed to do my foot (as that's where the problem was I thought) and he said no. He is v experienced in his field and specialises in EMG. The nerve conduction and emg was totally normal. I really want to relax but can't as I'm worried he should have done my foot. One needle was done v near my foot and I was asked to raise my foot while the needle was in. Any reassurance will be much appreciated and I will not bother you again (I promise to cancel my account!). Since the emg my foot / leg has felt weaker but I'm guessing any weakness would have benn picked up? I have been fund raising for mnd / als and so far have raised £225, not much but every little helps (inspired by this website).

Thank you for fundraising. That is an impressive amount I think. Really I think you should feel confident in your specialist. The EMG is very sensitive and if there were an issue it would have picked it up
Best of luck!

Trust your doctors. They would have run more tests if they had any doubt whatsoever. They know what they are doing. If you continue to have symptoms ask them for suggestions on who your should follow up with. I'm sorry you are having any issues at all. But, please try to relax. I really think the doctor's would have told you if they suspected ALS. With the clear EMG's you are in the clear.

Thank you very much for your replies. My goal is to raise 1000 pounds but it will may take a while as fundraising with a newborn is tricky! I guess my main worry was that he didn't do the foot where the problem was and therefore 'missed' the als. Do you think that the shin and asking me to lift my foot whilst the needle was in is enough? Also, my leg has been feeling very odd and weak since the emg but not before (I can still walk up stairs etc) but I'm guessing if this weakness was due to als then the emg 10 days ago would have shown some thing? I just worried as I saw on the sticky that the emg must be done in the affected muscle to show some thing and my foot wasn't done.... Thanks again.

Yes that was really enough. Truly. And the EMG shows before you can feel the damage

Thank you Nikki. I was very confused by the sticky as it suggests if the muscles affected is not tested then als won't show up. Maybe it needs expanding on in some way then you helpful people won't have to be bothered. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Would you please, please, please, quit posting! You are beyond wearing out your welcome. You don't have ALS! Plain and simple! The EMG'S would have showed something. The Dr's would run more tests etc. Please, Please, Please just go and live your life. We answered and answered and answered again. You keep asking, and asking, and asking. Please just go...........See a psychiatrist if necessary. We are try to be polite but this is getting ridicoulous. Thank you.

Hi Skipper,

I'm sorry I have offended you. I really don't think you can say I posted and posted, I only made 2 posts and was very thankful for the the replies I got, my third post was just trying to be helpful so people don't get bothered by questions unnecessarily after reading the sticky which seems to contradict what I've been told. I am honestly very sorry I have upset you.

The sticky which I have amended for emphasis already said AREA not exact muscle. These doctors know their anatomy and if you report a certain dysfunction they know what to test. When I had my abnormal EMG the doctor ( who had not examined me) asked what my problem was. I said my ankle does this. She said ah the problem may be here and put a needle half way up my lower leg (not in the ankle) and that was indeed the problem. I have amended that sticky a number of times. Unfortunately anxious people read what they want into it as you did

Good luck. Really. I know you have had a hard time of it this past year

Thank you Nicky, I'm sorry, I just read the sticky I found, I should have checked for an amended one. Thank you for all your help and for clearing that up. I have searched and searched but can't find a way to close my thread, which I want to do so that no one else is upset or offended by it, I didn't intend that at all. If you can close it or tell me how to I would really appreciate it. Thank you again.

I will close it though you as the OP could also by clicking on thread tools. The comment about area ( not muscle) was in the sticky you read. Your anxiety made it read differently to you
Take care
