Hi Everyone,

I am 27yr old and currently I am going through a very bad phase of my life-anxiety, depression etc etc.So request you all to please bare with my question as it can be anxiety driven-:( :(

Daily I take healthy natural diet, supplements (omega3, multivitamin, whey, MSM). I also take lot of sulfur rich diet too and a supplement for sulfur ie MSM ( heard a lot about its benefits)

so,can consuming lot of sulfur through diet (chicken, milk, wheatgrass, protein powder, nuts, eggs, green veggies, fruits) and supplement (MSM) cause ALS?
OR
once a person has ALS, then he/she should avoid sulfur rich diet?

Should I control my sulfur intake through my diet or amino acids l-cysteine or MSM supplement ? Request you all to please help me on this.

I read an article in acu-cell.com and healthknot.com that says-

"Lou Gehrig's disease, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is another disorder that presents with above-normal sulfur and selenium levels, which also requires avoidance of sulfur and selenium-rich supplements and/or foods, particularly the big three - eggs, onions, and garlic, although it should be emphasized that dietary sources are not the cause of Lou Gehrig's disease, but excessive storage of cellular sulfur and selenium. In contrast, some rare forms of ALS or Parkinson's-like diseases are attributable to mercury
poisoning, in which case selenium supplementation can be a consideration for its mercury-lowering effect."

I have read that excess sulfur excretes out of body through urine but above its written that " excessive storage of cellular sulfur and selenium" cause ALS.

If sulfur is excreted out, then how can it be stored? I am very confused.
Please help me on this.

God bless you all.Thanks a lot !

Never heard of any of this. I can tell you that no one has been able to pin down what causes ALS. Mercury poisoning? Excessive storage of cellular sulfur and selenium? Where was this found? I'm sure if this was true we would have heard more about this "breakthrough". Avoiding certain foods will not protect your chances of getting ALS. Enjoy your food and don't worry about ALS.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply ECpara :)

I am really not able to get this thing out of my mind and I am getting scared of eating these foods.I know this can be anxiety but I really cant help myself. This thing about sulfur was actually written in two different health sites, that is what is worrying me.Could you pleaseee help me with this line "excessive storage of cellular sulfur and selenium"...how the sulfur gets stored when its meant to be excreted out when taken in excess? Could you please ask your doctor about this just once and tell me.I will be very grateful.I don't want to take an appointment with an ALS specialist for this silly point.Hope you understand. Thank you so so much !

We only see his neurologist once every six months. Maybe someone else on here can answer for you. Sometimes Dr. Google can give out some pretty crazy information.

One last question for everyone- Please answer this and I promise I wont come back

Ignore my previous two posts on Sulfur, I think it was irrational.I am convinced now that diet has no link to ALS.But I have a small concern now, I think it can be anxiety but a reply from you all can really help me a lot-

Around 3 months back, I had some weakness in my right hand (area from wrist till fingers) which lasted for a week and it was gone. But again since last two days I am having that same kind of weakness in my right hand (same area-from wrist till fingers). I have just two questions-

1) Can it be an initial symptom for ALS for that particular area?
2) Can ALS symptoms come and go-like weakness 3 months back and again now in that same area .

Request you all to please help me on this.

^
3) If it was a perceived weakness, can perceived weakness in the same area two times in 3 months indicate anything towards slow progression of ALS ?

Waiting eagerly for the replies. Please answer these and I promise I wont come back to disturb you.Trust me please

God Bless you all !

ALS does not come and go so transient episodes of weakness even if clinical would indicate something else. Please see your doctor and get it checked out but do not worry about ALS
Good luck

Ditto Nikki. ALS does not come and go. It is a progressive disease. Forget ALS. Good luck!

Thank you so so much Nikki and ECpara.....I really hope GM604 drug is available to all PALS as soon as as possible and they all become healthy and fine once again :)..I will really pray to god....god bless you all !
