Hello Everyone!
I do not often write on forums but I must put 'pen to paper' and see what all you lovely people think of my situation.

I'm currently in a very dark place - If you would have spoken to me a month ago I would not have a care in the world. Just landed my dream job and moving to the big ol' smoke of London.

Here's the story.

I'm in my late 20's guy who was in perfect health and not a care in the world then 3 weeks ago I suddenly felt slightly light headed (off balance) feeling, nothing major but it took me by surprise. I did not think too much of it but it persisted and I spent the next 10 days with this feeling of being slightly 'spaced out' then I noticed my walking was ever so slightly 'off' my right foot seemed to stick to the ground slightly more than the left. Also during this time I had a hot flush, I did not like the heat after a shower, also I had tingly sensations throughout my body - especially the feet. I also had transient dull aching pain in joints etc. I had a bad pressure headache and the skin on my forehead felt very tight.

By this time I was convinced I had MS. Then I noticed my right thumb felt stiff - this sounded alarm bells and then noticed my other fingers felt slightly stiff too.

I decided to see a GP who did the neurological test I told him my concerns of MS / MND and he discounted them and said he saw no indications at all and come back in two weeks - great I thought.

The day after I noticed body twitching pretty much throughout, combined with one twitch of the tongue and back / neck spasms, or rigidity but eventually it goes down.

I thought enough is enough and booked to see a private consultant neurologist who specialises in muscle disorders, again I told him my symptoms and he gave me a thorough neurological exam and he saw no signs of neurological problems at all and did not think further tests were necessairy.

The day after getting back from there my wrist hurt a bit on the right, however, this has got better - great as it felt better but again my neck muscles tightened then released.

I'm in this horrible place - my friends who I have confided in think I'm now crazy as I have had two doctors (one being a consultant neurologist with a speciality in the subject) saying that they were very confident I do not have these illnesses but I just know I have MND

I'm thinking of any other alternatives... No family history and what further petrifies me is the fast progression - as I said at the beginning, 3 weeks ago I was fine, then BANG head feels light and everything ensues. Can this disease literally attack you from zero symptoms to what I have described in 3 weeks? Could this is be a viral problem? Today my neck muscles tightened up and I struggled to swallow a bit - this scared me some what as pressure on the neck is never good!

Could this be MS (The thing that counts against it is the muscle twitching) everything seems to point to MND but I have had experts saying otherwise - Friends tell me believe the experts - things can't come on in 3 weeks from nothing. Just relax... BUT how can you when you feel your body is different.

The thought of not making it past my 30th birthday is scaring me!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sounds to me like you caught a virus ...aching joints, tightness in your head, flushing with maybe a little vertigo thrown in. Wouldn't worry about ALS.

... also just want to mention that I have no weakness as yet (my right wrist did feel slightly weaker once) but today apart from feeling a little bit different I have as much power as I need. This is very debilitating - as a few of these incidents you can put to one side and carry on in life but at the moment I feel like I've been hit my a train of some sort.

Thanks.

Hi Goosebery,

Thank you for your message, I've been to Florida many-a-time - LOVE it.

I wish I could believe you but unfortunately I've never had a virus that has done this to me before - it's the muscle twitching that unfortunately has got me concerned plus every day something else new seems to happen

Yes it could be viral, compounded by anxiety. 2 doctors have told you, your friends have told you now I will tell you this is not MND. Nothing remotely like it. Light headed flushed headache etc none of these are symptoms. Twitching is meaningless except perhaps related to anxiety. Where you get MS/ MND out of your symptoms I can not imagine. You were examined by a specialist. Believe him/ her not your anxiety and see your gp to get help for the anxiety part of this

Hi Nikki,

Thanks for the message. However I am concerned I presented too early - and since this Monday which is only 2 days ago my muscles tense up more to the point of swallowing is different.
I get MND from the symptoms as I have rigidity in the skin, muscle twitching, and so far my thumb has still not gone back entirely how it should.

I'm very scared because my body is doing things it has never done before and things seem to progress.

... Can MND progress this quickly, I mean... things are not getting better, for example walking is same and my thumb feels stiff still.. the spasms which I NEVER had before is a cause for concern.... my main issue is the advancement of this form 3 weeks to this.. Sorry to go on and I understand that can come across as being a hypochondriac but I'm at a loss. TBH, I can't think it could be anything else, as my thumb and walking etc should have returned back to normal by now shouldn't they.

First off, did you even read the stickies? I doubt it, all your "symptoms" are addressed there. Your anxiety is getting the best of you. Nothing sounds like ALS, and no, it does not progress that fast. Listen to your doctors, your friends, and us. You do not have ALS (MND). Relax and enjoy a big 30th birthday party!

Hi! Thanks I hope so. I did read the stickies but I can't help the fact my body is twitching. I'm walking differently and my wrist feels different. And how quick this has happened.

You do not have MND, by all indications. MND does not present as you have described, nor does MS. What you think you "know" is wrong. And I think you know that, too. Not to get overly analytical, but sometimes when you have good fortune, there can be a part of you that thinks you are not deserving or it will not last, depending on your past. The subconscious is a powerful saboteur.

Certainly, there can be sequelae of a virus, stomach flu, food poisoning, spider bites, immunizations, lots of things. If you do have MND, it is not treatable so there is no point in worrying three weeks in since it will reveal in due course (it won't). Unless the symptoms persist, are consistent_and_ worsen or extend, I would not book any more appts. If you can't control your worry and it affects your work and/or sleep, I would talk with your GP about medication.

You mention you moved to London recently, so I wonder about stress and overwork with all the logistics of a move, new position, changes in diet, drinks and such. Or even some kind of allergy in your new place. Do the symptoms worsen at a particular time or place? Don't answer me, answer yourself. Be a detective. Meet yourself head on.

Whenever you have your next day off, I would go somewhere, reconnect with an outdoor or recreational activity you enjoy, a concert, museum, whatever. Celebrate the favorable changes in your circumstances, and I'll wager they remain so.

Thank you for the reply. I woke up today stiffer than before. Legs now and my right arm feeling no better.
There is something definitely going on.
Is there anything else that can present like this that seems to be happened so quick?

I personally think we have politely answered you enough and nobody should be responding to you further. You aren't showing much respect to any of us when you don't listen to a word anyone tells you . They took the time and energy to respond to your posts. You were cleared by two specialists as well. I am truly sorry you are having any health issues at all. But, we truly can't help you at all on here. None of us think you have ALS or anything remotely close to it at this point. That's the best we can do. Sorry. But, many of us seem to think anxiety is part of your issues. I'd check into that if I were you. Good luck, Kim

Sunnyday, as you wrote,

("Is there anything else that can present like this that seems to be happened so quick?")

Yes, if you don't believe what you have been told by one of the most knowledgeable members (Nikki) and you continue to ramble on... this Thread maybe closed. Quickly.

Ok to summarize
Your gp plus a specialist neurologist examined you and said no MND
Your friends think no MND
People on this forum who either have MND or have loved ones that have/had MND all think nothing sounds like MND

You think you have MND in spite of this

I think everyone who is likely to answer you here has ( and very politely too) I am going to close this thread as no good will come of you continuing to argue your point here. Please go back to your gp and tell him/her your concerns and symptoms and then follow the advice they give. Good luck
