On my EMG there are some numbers (e.g. 1+) in different categories and I can't seem to figure out what they mean. Is a lower number better? Or do they indicate different processes within a category? I've been searching online but have not found an explanation. Any insight is helpful.

Are the categories fibs and psws? Lower numbers are generally better. None is normal

Hi Nikki,

Yes, they are for fibs and PSWs. I have one of these numbers in a column called "Poly" as well.

Thank you for the reply and help.

Fibs (fibrillation) and PSW (Positive sharp waves) are signs of active denervation. You want that column to be 0, N, or NL (normal). The higher the number the more denervation. Poly is probably for poyphasic and a number there indicates an old nerve injury.
