Can anyone tell me how symmetrical this disease is? Also, is ALS physically painful?

I have a lot of muscle atrophy and muscle spasms. What is strange is that it always affects my body parts in a symmetrical fashion.

First it was my hands - painful as heck, followed by atrophy in the muscles. Then, my feet -same thing - very painful followed by noticeable atrophy. Then, my thighs. Then calves. Has progressed for about 10 months now.

Sometimes I feel pain in my spine.

Strange but its always symmetrical. There is atrophy and a lot of pain.

Is this ALS?

Edited. I see Nikki is familiar with your family history.

Surely you know this? Your brother had ALS.
It does not start symmetrically nor is pain part of the beginning though it often comes late in the disease. What do your physicians say? If you have confirmed atrophy in multiple areas they must be working on an answer
