Dear All,
I would like to thank in advance anyone who answers my question.
I Am 58 yo female language teacher. My tongue is essential in sounding for students to emulate. However, over the past few weeks I have experienced occasional slurring during lessons and also a tingling/ numbing sensation back of tongue and in throat. This has also happened while speaking to friends. I went to dr, who sent me to hospital for Ct scan, but it was clean.
I have never in my entire life felt such a fatigue as I Am having now. I have had an excruciating twinge in my throat (once), tregeminal neural pain in face a few Times' also over the past few weeks.
Question: does bulbar take many weeks to become more manifest than occasional slurring every day?

for me, this is how it all started -- in 9/2010, slurred speech. go to an als clinic or als specialist and ask. No is a good answer. Check w/ your PCP and have them consolidate your visits and data. Don't hurry, but rather continue to ask and test.

Progression is different for everybody. Foremost, don't stress! Neuro appts can take months to organize. Assume the best ...

Thanks for the input, Max. My GP is certain it's just stress, but I'll keep in touch with her and see how things progress. MyGP gave me anemergency referral when I complained about slurring and facial pain so had CT scan same day and met w neurologist who suggested I keep in touch with GP.
I'll wait a while to see how things progress. If I have it I guess there isn't anything anyone can do anyway.
BTW I read that a professional CALS Said that all her PALS were type A personality, people who relentlessly drive themselves to fatigue. I thoughtit was an interesting observation.

Whenever you are , I hope you are as well as youcanbeunder the circumstances. Take care.

talk is cheap and real stats and demographics still speak gibberish ... the only well established demographic so far is that veterans of military service, war related or not, have twice the incidence from the non-veteran population. some guess stress, some think government cover up, but in the end I fear that we won't get new indicators until the new Registry report come out next months -- 6 years in the compilation!

btw, pain is not a usual early indicator.

this was how mine started. I was extremely tired and slurred on occasion. It got very slowly worse over the next 8 months. I can still talk normal if I limit my speech to short phrases.

Thanks again Max. It's interesting that stress could come into play. In that case one might find the numbers fluctuating in various parts of the world where war rages. I wonder if there was an increase post WWII?

Sorry to hear that, and I sincerely hope you may receive another diagnosis. Take care.

seeing a speech therapist may be faster and helpful ...
