Hello all. I've been looking over these forums for a few weeks and can't seem to find any answers to my problem so I thought I would go ahead and register and post my own question. Let me say thank you in advance to any of you that take the time to respond to my fears. I apologize for using any of your precious time. I'm just seriously scared.
For a few weeks I've had trouble talking. I wouldn't really call it slurring (except in the mornings sometimes when I first wake up-then I have definitely slurred) but more like I have to work hard to say things right. Also, I sometimes feel like I'm having a hard time getting a bite of food down, or that my drink of water is going down the wrong way, or like my throat is closing to soon. This symptom comes and goes. I have not choked on food or drink and no one has mentioned that they've noticed a slurred speech when I talk.
My biggest fear is what my tongue is doing. When I stick it out it quivers from about the half way mark down to the tip. I read that it was usually normal for your tongue to bounce around when your sticking it out and the real test was when your tongue is resting in your mouth. So I took a look and it twitches a lot. Mostly in the middle but also on the side and towards the tip. I've been checking it out for the past couple weeks and it's pretty constant. I'm so scared. It doesn't look like the "bag of worms" some have mentioned but I looked up some YouTube videos of tongue fasc in people with ALS and they look more mild than mine does.
I have been to the doctor to no avail. I'm in the process of finding someone that cares about what I say, but in the mean time I am terrified. I'm 32 with four kids and I feel like I can't even function sometimes because I'm so scared.
Also, I have muscle twitches throughout my body as well. Usually arms and legs and they definitely come and go. They don't look like ALS twitches I've seen in the videos but I still thought I'd mention it. My calves have been cramping when I stretch at night but not while I'm resting. Thanks again for any input. I'm going to try to find a way to share my video.
