Hi All. Whoa it's been a roller coaster ride for me over the past 6 months. I originally went to the neurologist for chronic fatigue, and after months of tests looking for something, he's finally very concerned it's ALS.
I'm 37, very active and in great shape. It started in Sep with fatigue. Then January with non-stop fasciculations and muscle cramping, followed by occasional speech slurring, having a hard time with words. It wasn't until last week he finally seemed concerned it might be ALS. We're still ruling out other things, Myasthenia gravis has been ruled out, but still looking at infections and other possible causes.
My main symptom is fatigue. I am getting a lot of sleep but still exhausted. Second is fasciculations, they are non-stop, but vary in intensity throughout the day. They are everywhere including my tongue. I'm also having slurred speech, hard time finding words, but it's not all the time. Anxiety and overall brain fog is present most of the time
Other than that I feel physically ok. I can still exercise, don't notice any muscle atrophy, and don't feel physically tired, just mentally. Doc says possible bulbar onset but not sure how that manifests other than speech and breathing.
I know it's good to think positive and while I haven't been diagnosed I feel the doc is jumping to quickly to diagnose me. I'd like to hear some thoughts with other that have possible bulbar onset diagnosis pending. Thanks!
