I posted here a little while back in Mister December after weeks of muscle twitches. I got pretty good advice and waited it out, then went to go see a doctor for my issue earlier this month. For about 2 months I've had gradually worsening muscle twitches, and have been the the doctor a few times about it. The first time I went to the ER and after several blood tests, they found nothing wrong except dehydration. After weeks of no progress and subsequent hand stiffness, I went to the doctor earlier this month, and he believed I was fine after doing a standard physical and a reflex test, but took some tests to double check, CPK and TSH. I called today about my results ans was told I would need to come back in because my CPK was slightly above normal. I'm freaking out, only 20 and afraid of the worse, any thoughts? I'm having tiny twitches everywhere, even my stomach and my neck, balance issues and pain in my left thigh. Please help...

Just looking for advice about my symptoms, and how to approach my upcomming visit

Doesn't sound like ALS. An elevated CPK is not uncommon and can easily mean nothing, an inflammatory myopathy, many treatable conditions. That yours is only slightly elevated is encouraging as well. Probably they will run an immune panel and some other blood work that can help narrow down the field.

Thank you. I've alos noticed a hotspot or constant spot for my twitches are my left ankles, and even though I get them in both ankles, this one has a decen thumbisized dent in it. As I have not experienced foot drop, would this be important to tell doctors? I'm able to stand on my toes nd heel and did marching band all year before this.

You have been called back to discuss with your doctors. Instead of writing here, why don't you sit down calmly and write a big list of questions, print it out and take it with you. Be very clear of all your fears, and symptoms and get them all addressed.

Much more productive than expecting so many of the members here who are typing with their EYES, definitely not marching in bands, to help you out.

I sincerely wish you all the best, but it still does not point at all towards ALS, so only your doctors can help you and explain your test results.

"Physicians often find high CPK levels in patients who have damage to the brain, heart or skeletal muscle. This can occur in such conditions as a heart attack, a brain injury, a stroke, convulsions, inflammation of the heart muscle, electrical shock, lung tissue death or muscular dystrophy. In some cases, people with thyroid conditions or a condition known as rhabdomyolysis, a condition in which damaged muscles leak a protein called myoglobin into the bloodstream, may cause an elevated CPK, according to MedlinePlus, a publication of the National Institutes of Health."

You haunted this forum for several weeks in December until everyone was ready to feed you to the wolves in frustration. I'm of the opinion that you have had muscle damage to that one that rests between your ears.

forgive me, but im just pretty freaked out and wanted advice. as everyone thought it was all in my head for the past few months, and i tried to believe them, this new news coupled with the fact that im stlll twitching and have increased fatigue and depression is very upsetting and scary to me. im sore, twitcby everywhere especially the back, biceps, calves and now my cheek, and just wanted to see if this sounded familiar or suspicious to you guys

please, i know im asking for a lot but any opinions on my symptoms is appreciated. im just so scaed, terrified of being sick at 20...

you've been "pretty freaked out" for several months on here. no doctor you see is considering ALS. your only abnormal report is an elevated CPK which has no signifcant whatsoever on ALS. this is in your head until a doctor tells you different.

Please.

im not expeiencing weakness bt myvleft leg has been a hotspot for twiches and is very stiff, almost feels dead :-( and th ankle is noticibly smallr than my right

Thank you for your opinions. I'm sorry for my rash behavior, its just the thought of my weakness and it possibly being bad is a lot on a young man. I have school and everything to concentrate on, and a relationship on the brink of failing because of these issues

great to see that you have come around.

you are welcome, we gave our opinions, your behaviour was rash, but now you can work with your doctors, concentrate on school and fix your relationship. You have absolutely nothing that points to ALS.

please do not try to think up a new set of questions to ask us

all the best

don't fret tillie, he will appear like a full moon in february...mark my words.

I went to my doctor today and expressed my fears, and after a quick clinical examination where I had to do things like stick out my tongue and puff my cheeks out, she concluded that other than an cpk of 500, I passed my exam easily, didn't give me a recommendation, and sent me home with anti anxiety pills. As I've seen 3 different doctors about this with not a single specialist recommendation, I'm pretty much just gonna have to deal
