I am new here and not sure how to start my own post, but I just want some advise while I wait for some tests, about a year ago I started to have some twitching in Radom spots on my body. About a month after that I noticed a small spot on my tongue has facsticulations . Went to a neurologist. Who then preformed three separate emgs two in my body one on my tongue witch was done under my chin, all completely normal. As well as my clinical exams. I must also add that I feel I have been having speech issues, my husband thinks. Sound the same as always. For about 6 months after all was checked out, it was pretty much gone. Till the end of December of 2012 it stated to creep up again, so in march I saw my neurologist again who again did an exam and said it was normal. So I came home and things seem t wax and wane. My husband suggested I get a second opinion so I did today. This neurologist also say my exam I s normal but he is worried about the fasticulations in one small part of my tongue, he did mention als on the list of things that cause fasticulations. What do you guys think, should I be scared. Any input would be great! I'm am very scared I am 33 years old and am pretty healthy. Thank you!

Sorry I forgot to take out that part about not knowing how to start a thread

Bailey,

You told me that the neuro mentioned BFS as a possibility as well. Hang onto that because generally, clean EMG = no ALS. In two weeks with the fourth EMG, I'm betting it will be clean again. Keep in mind, stress can exacerbate symptoms be they benign or not - so try to relax as best you can. Breathe deep. It's not easy, and every person here has been through it.

I'm new to this site as well. But I know I have bulbar ALS. Onset was last October when my speech started to change. I've had 2 EMGs and 3 MRI's and several test at the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville, FL. When they ran the MRI's they found I had 3 mini strokes during my sleep. I was told that these strokes can show some of the signs you mentioned and then gradually go away. I wasn't that fortunate, after all the testing I was diagnoised with ALS in Feb 2013. And my speech keeps deteriating and hasn't got better. But you might want to talk to your doctor about stroke possibility. God bless and be safe!

Rosie, with my speech no one else notices anything, my husband, my mom and son all say I sound normal, i even saw a speech threapist last summer and he said my speech was better then his, then the end of summer everything was completly normal again and i felt fine, then it all staarted come back. but I feel that I am not talking right. Is that how yours was or did others notice first?

I don't want to sound harsh, but at some point you will have to trust the specialists you have seen. They are trained, educated and experienced in their field. Anxiety can cause and make things worse. Maybe see your GP and see about some meds to help with the anxiety, there is no shame in that.

What would be a shame is to give in the anxiety and miss out on time with family and friends. Give the meds a try and if in 6 months things are worse then go back to the dr.

Rosie,

Welcome - sorry for your diagnosis. Happy you found us though.

Hope to get to know you.

here is a link to what my tongue looks like and is doing, let me know if you guys see anything odd

Sorry I don't see what you are talking about. It looks normal to me.

Looks normal here as well. By the way you can only assess tongue fasciculations when the tongue is at rest. As soon as raise it up or stick it out it will have a tendency to twitch. When doctors ask you to stick it out they are not looking for twitching but muscle strength etc.

I was checking to see if anyone saw any atrophy, thank everyone for taking a peek

Bailey,

You are losing control. Your fears are taking over and you've wasted a beautiful summer day checking and filming your tongue. Does that seem reasonable to you? You will never have this day again. Think about that and trust what Nikki said.
