Hello everybody. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me. It's been about a year and I thought my ALS fears were put to rest but they are haunting me again. Please bear with me.
Last year I had upper and lower EMGs which were all normal. The only thing I was diagnosed with was peripheral neuropathy. That was found in the Nerve Condution studies. It took some time but I finally stopped thinking about ALS with every little twitch, cramp, etc.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. Out of the clear blue I got this terrible cramping in my right ankle joint. Ever since then I find myself limping from day to day and favoring this right foot when I put pressure on it for a while. I'm not at the point where i need help walking but I definitely feel something isn't right.
The other night I looked down at my right calf and noticed a huge indent right under my calf muscle where it meets my ankle. I'm not talking about the usual outline of your calf muscle this is something different. At first I thought it might be my leg pressing against the chair but no.
When grilling last evening I looked back at both calf muscles, right and left and it definitely appears the right calf muslce is shrinking away to nothing. It just doesn't look right to me. The left side appears full and the rigth side appears to be wasting away.
I've spend the better part of the last week walking on my heels, walking on my toes and looking at my calf muscles seeing if it is shrinking on a daily basis.
During this time I also notice that if I sit down and flex my right foot really tight upwards there is a definitely flickering / twitching on the top of my foot near my ankle muscle. If I relax my foot it stops.
I have put on about 20 lbs since last year which may be contributing to my ankle and foot cramping but I just fear that the EMG missed somethign last year and now I might be doomed.
I've read on the internet that the EMG can see things that you might not be happening yet and mine was clean. The neurologist I do see said to me at one point EMGs don't need to be repeated unless there is a need to. I had a physical exam at the neurologist just before this all started and it was normal.
Ugh what is wrong with me? What does everyone think?
Thanks
