Default Worried Again?

Hello!

I'm male and 35 years old. My first visit in ALS Forums was in 2005 when I experienced a lot of widespread twitches (legs, arms, hands, face, back,...)! Between 2005 and 2007 I posted a lot worried with my twitches! I went about 10 times in a ALS specialist and the answer was always the same, you are fine!

Since then I kept the worries out of my mind but the twitches never stopped (some times more intense than others). It's ok!

But in the last days I started to feel a pain in my left wrist and in my neck (left side). The pain (not strong) in the wrist is just when I hold heavy things (a book of 2000 pages, per example). No pain with normal activities. And about my neck I think it is getting better.

Do you think this kind of pain is a starting of real weakness? The pain in wrist and in the neck at the same time is a coincidence? Do you think I should be worried and make an appointment with an ALS specialist again?

Thanks!

All the best,

GKGK

PS) I had to change my username (before it was GGKK) because I forgot my password and my old email is inactive.

Um... no. Weakness is not being able to hold or pick up anything... a piece of paper, a pill, etc., not pain. Pain is not indicative of ALS until the muscle is dying and already weakened. Weakness is permanent, not better at some times.

I'd look into how you slept that night, carpal tunnel, pinched nerve, etc. You said you were here some years ago, didn't you learn how ALS progresses at that point in time?

Yes, I was here for some years posting a lot of questions! Just look for GGKK!
I learned a lot and put the worries out of my mind!

I'm feeling this wrist pain (when holding a heavy thing) in the last 20 days. And also the neck pain (depending the position).

My worry is due these kind of pain at same time! Strange, no?

Thanks!

Best,

I'm with Helen. Symp toms do not come and go. Also fa scic u la tions are END STAGE of the di sease NOT the forefront. Go back and refresh your memory by reading the stickies. Also, check out A bout B F S site.

You went to a neu rol o gist 10 times in a short time frame. Always getting the same answer. I'm sure you will just ignore the advice given to you anyway, but my advice is above. Get ALS out of your vocabulary. And B T W, I would love to be able to.see a neu rol o gist that many times!

Socialized Medicine, we US'ers can only dream.

Hello Toto's,

I didnt say these pains (wrist and neck) are coming and going! I am feeling them (left wrist - when hold heavy thinks; neck - depending the position) for the last 20 days!

Thats why I'm worried!

Be sure I will not ignore the advices! I learned a lot when I was here before.

I went to the neurologist (a lot of times) between 2005 and 2007. And one more time in 2009. It is not socialized medicine. I had to pay (and very expensive) for it!

Thanks!

Best,

GKGK

Your symptoms aren't ALS Symptoms. I say no ALS and my advice is free. Stop lifting heavy stuff for awhile and I'll bet your pain will go away. Good luck!

I think your post answers your own question. Too much time has past since your initial concerns. Let's be blunt. If you had ALS you would either be dead by now or not able to move a thing. Instead you are suffering from a few twitches and a twinge of pain. You have classic hypochondria, proven by your endless visits to a neurologist with nothing wrong.
You can't sit around trying to blame every pain on ALS. You have very bad health anxiety. It's not a nice illness, but it won't kill you. Read the sticky on health anxiety and maybe get some councilling.

I said about my past but remember I put my worries out my mind since 2009. Yes, I have health anxiety. But my worries right now are not about the twitches and the old symptoms. It is about my wrist and neck pains for the last 20 days!

Thanks!

I was referring to your statement, "And about my neck I think its getting better." If this was ALS, your neck would not be getting better. And if you get to point, pain when you pick up; no pain when you don't.

So I'm with Marta. Don't pick up anything for a while. And Aly's stickie about hea lth an xi ety is spot on. And also Aly pointed out, you can't think every twi nge has to be ALS related.

Good luck to you,

What you want to say "pain when you pick up, no pain when you don't"?

Thanks!

I am sitting here with a wheat pack on my very sore neck and head. I can hardly get off the couch. Had it off and on for weeks.......why would I even consider its being caused by ALS..........I don't, I have a sore neck, who knows why.

And no it's not the first step toward weakness......it's a sore neck.

You may have pinched a nerve in your neck. Soft tissue injuries, etc take about 6 weeks to fully heal, so I suggest if the pain continues you see your doctor about it. Sounds extremely minor to me, hence my comment about health anxiety. Not many people have a pain and rush to an ALS forum to ask about weakness.

I am in agony and I am not rushing to a forum for dengue fever...............get my point.

That was in reference to the pain being on and off.

There are people with symptoms (twitches, per example) for long years before diagnosed with ALS, no? Is it impossible? There are people first diagnosed with BFS and later with ALS. I've already read about it!
