My husband's family has familial ALS (sod1). His mother had it and his brother does as well. My husband has had foot pain and tingling for the last year. It has gotten worse over the past few months with the addition of muscle cramping to all of his extremities. He hasn't had any muscle weakness but is constantly fatigued and very emotional.

He is afraid he has ALS. I will call Emory University next week, as they have a research study going on with familial ALS - but would like some opinions......

Fatigue and emotionalism aren't symptoms particular to ALS. They could be caused by a lot of things. Foot pain and tingling -- also not particular to ALS and, in fact, point away from ALS. It wouldn't hurt for your husband to see somebody about his muscle cramps, though, if for nothing more than piece of mind.

Good luck.
