:cry::cry:Hi guys just wanted a bit of advice. Im 27 and have been experiencing muscle weakness in my arms and legs. Sometimes i cant do up my buttons but other times i can. I cant walk very far at all and my legs give in alot of the times. Im scared i might hav als. Iv never had any twitching jus weakness. Somedays worser than others but the weakness is always there. What r your experiences?

Sorry you are having these problems but in my experience it's best to ask these questions of your doctor first before you go looking for answers on the internet.

Good luck!

Hi there, I agree with Barry you need to see a doctor before comming here. The internet and these forums are not for making diagnosis. A lot of information is very misleading and will have you trying to diagnose your self. I know because I did too, and it was a specialist in the field who diagnosed me.

Best wishes. I hope that what ever is going on is not ALS.

Im going to see a neurologist next week. Iv already had loads of blood test done. Im really nervous. Iv already been diagnosed with servere osteoporosis which has caused me to have multiple fractures in my body and iv lost alot of height in my spine cause of collasped vertabrae and fractures on my spine. Its been a bad couple of years. I jus hope this muscle weakness is not als. Do you get any other symtoms? i dont jus weakness,

There are many conditions which can cause muscle weakness. ALS is only one of them, and a rarely occurring one at that, especially at your age. Please be patient and let your doctors do what they need to do to figure out what's wrong with you, rather than doing random symptom searches on the Internet. Medical information is very poorly organized on the Internet, and doing unfocused searches will lead you to all kinds of places with scary information that has no relevance to your condition.

And yes, there are other symptoms that go along with ALS. Osteoporosis isn't one of them.

Thank you guys for your replys. I will let you no how i get on. There is something defo wrong with my muscles the neuro im seeing is an expert in muscle deseases so he should shed some light on whats going on. I agree the internet is dangerous in terms of looking up symptoms because i have really scared myself over the last couple of months.

More likely with vertebrae and spinal problems you have nerve irritation which could explain your symptoms more than ALS.

AL

Having osteoporosis at your age (it's almost unheard of at such a young age) more than likely indicates that you have some type of parathyroid hormone problem (not thyroid, which is different). It can also cause muscle weakness.

Al also made a great point about nerve irritation from your vertebrae issues.

Good luck with your appointment and let us know how it went. Take care.
