i have a maybe stupid question! when the neuro made the emg how many times did he insert the needle per muscle in your cases. for example the calf muscle. i know there is the medial head and the lateral head of gastrocnemius, but how many times the insert the needle in one head. i am asking this because some muscles are very large and the needle is only a very tiny so possibility to miss something is big . thanks for your answers
greetings

Bubble- personally, I was not counting the needles and paying attention to how many were inserted and where. I was doing some deep breathing and Zen-like focus to try and relax. It sounds like you are second guessing your neurologist and his or her expertise in administering the EMG, which really is not a good idea. Assuming that person is a neuro who specializes in neuromuscular disease, then he has years of training in conducting this test and one should assume that the neuro knew what he was doing. And his or her knowledge is vastly superior than anything you will come up with, or I, or anyone else on this forum, at least in regards to administering and interpreting that EMG test.

Take care-

Sandra

When the needle is inserted, the neuro will angle it in at least a few directions and then drive it deep into the muscle. This will allow all areas of that muscle to be evaluated.

As Sandra said and as I would hope you know, you don't know more than your neuromuscular specialist, no matter how much internet "research" you think you have done, so stop questioning what they have told you and believe them.

Once....I swear he hit bone a couple times!
