hi, been reading through some posts. How can one Dr not be able to read an emg that is later properly read? (by different Dr)? Is is a standard test that is taught in school?

Actually, you'll be surprised...doctors are obviously taught ABOUT EMG's but the ability to complete and read the results are a specialty.

I've learned that EMGs to have a bit of a subjectivity to them, in that each "tester" has his/her own nuances. Neurologists are specially trained in EMG/NCT and even THOSE neurologists have subspecialty in the testing aspect. In our situation, we went to our neurologist who then referred us to a neurologist who specialized in EMG/NCT-he completed his testing and then THAT specialist recommend our 2nd EMG/NCT be completed by ANOTHER specialist (the one who taught him) for a 2nd opinion. (did all that confuse you!?)

Hope that helps
Peace,
Melody
