Hi,

Thank you for letting me ask a question.

Hi, Is Stiffness something the Neorologist Observes or just what the PT feels?

Thankyou, Kindly

Both my neurologist and PT check for stiffness/spasticity.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for replying.

I made a mistake, as I meant to ask is it the neurologist who observes stiffness or the pt/patient?

My husband says he feels stiffness in the hands but is this something the neurologist will/can find during an exam?

Is it part of the Examination?

Thank you Very Much!

hi.
if the stiffness is from umn spasticity a neuro will be able to tell by doing reflex tests, checking for clonus.
a neuro and physio can also tell by doing straight forward range of motion exercises.

Again, Thank you,

So its not the stiffness that my husband "feels" in his hands when we are talking about Upper motor symptoms.......It is What the DR observes?

The reason I ask is that my husbands hands feel constantly stiff. He says when he tries to do things like open a lunch baggie or anything that requires use of small objects, his fingers tire easy & feel stiff.

I'm not sure, if when speaking of Uper motor neurons, we mean the same TYPE of Stiffness.

Thank You Kindly,
