Ok. I think Dad is declining. He is barely eating anything. Maybe a few spoon fulls of soup for lunch and about the same for dinner. Has loose bowels now all the time. really short of breath. Hospice brought out oxygen last night. So now on oxygen during the day and his bipap machine at night. Getting up 5 times at night saying he has to go. Nothing or very little comes out. Getting a catheter today. Any ideas what is next. Is this close to end? So weak and hardly talking to me now.

Is a few spoonfuls twice a day his total intake? What about fluids?

Putting him on O2 is a purely palliative strategy, as giving O2 straight to a PALS can be dangerous unless you are purely wanting to stave off air hunger and they are in end of life.

Have you discussed with hospice where they feel he is at? I'm so sorry, such a monster.

I don't understand why he wouldn't be on his BiPAP during the day, either instead of or if at end of life in addition to O2. His lack of appetite and weakness could relate to air hunger, so I would give it a try.

Best,
Laurie
