I'm the primary caregiver to a close friend with ALS, Patti-PALS. We're exploring ways that we can be financially supported once she goes on disability (probably within six months) and her care requires more of my time. She has disability insurance, but it may not be quite enough to cover everything. I have my own business, but I suspect I'll be cutting back my hours – and earnings.
Two options we're exploring:
1. Me becoming a certified home health aide and working through an agency that is paid by her long-term care insurance. (I'm concerned this would lead to conflicts of interest and conflicts related to professional licensing.)
2. Participating, if we qualify, in the Community Attendant Services program through Texas DADS.
Any other ideas or know solutions? We know it'll be tight, but we just need to keep the household afloat through the days ahead.
