Mom has Hospice care now. One of the nurses told me that she has mottling on her ankles and that is a sign of the body dying. But then sometimes she doesn't have it. The other day the knuckles on her 'good' hand were purplish. But they also tell me that her oxygen levels look good. I think she is in a progressive stage. Whenever she is in a progressive stage she gets really weak and tired for around a week or so for no other apparent reason. It has been this way for a couple of years now.
She is weaker these days. All she wants to do is nap on and off. She is listless and I can tell she is feeling down emotionally.
I have asked her Hospice social worker to address her advance directive. The one we have now is the generic one she filled out when diagnosed 5 years ago. There is one provided by the ALSA that refers to feeding tube specifics and breathing technology (which she has already opted out of).
I just wonder sometimes how she can continue. She is SO miserable: always sore, uncomfortable, etc. I don't want her to get to the point that she cannot communicate if she should want to 'tell us goodby'. I frankly don't know how she holds on.
