Default Does anyone know where I can find free counseling services in my area?

There is only one ALS support group in my area, which I don't want to go to in the first place, because I would like this to be private. I'm looking for one on one counseling and I can't afford to pay for it, but I feel like it could help.

It's hard to talk to my friends because they don't understand, and talking to people online just isn't the same. I was hoping it might help me be a little less angry at everything and everyone.

All religious men/women leaders offer counselling. It is private and one-on-one. Also, there are counselling facilities that will charge on a sliding scale according to what you make. It could cost as little as $10 to $20, if that works for you. I received free counselling years ago at a religious-based counselling facility. Hope this helps you out.

Check your hometown for state paid mental health centers. Counseling is available for a very affordable fee or free. Good luck to you. I am a psychologist dealing with ALS now and I so believe in the power of counseling. I wish I lived closer to you. I would help you more. jamiem

I bet your city has some services, I know my little town does. It's private, free (unless you do have insurance), and they've been helping my family for years with the kids and now with this. Good luck!

ALS of Michigan has social workers on staff and will speak with you so perhaps you can check if there is an ALS of Oregon or possibly the ALSA (ALS Association, Oregon Chapter).

misseland, I'm very sorry you are going through difficulties with family dynamics. It is very commendable that you have selflessly given up what you have to help your mom. There is a special place in heaven for you. In the meantime, here are some places that you might want to call:

Hope that is a start and that you can find help!
