Time for another question for the panel!

Have any of you vets with dependents actually received DEA college assistance? I am filing out the paperwork to submit and wanted to hear from anyone who had actually gotten financial assistance for their son or daughter. Time frame to hear from them?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!

Yes. It can take a little while. It depends on how fast your school is in filing. All of the paperwork has to be perfect, but it is WELL worth it. It is now $954 per month for each month they are in school full time. (pro-rated for partial months). It works out to be around $8500 - 9000 per school year. HUGE.

But not huge enough, depending upon your school.

I have the paperwork in hand that awards the benefit.

But there's more: The campus VA people told me we had to actually enroll and register, THEN request the VA to pay with still more paperwork.

Keep in touch. I hope to use the DEA benefit soon for both flight training and for academics.

That is right, they do have to be registered in school. The school actually fills out the remaining paperwork after they have been approved for benefits.
