Home Trache Care: Sterile vs. Clean techniques

Is it ok to use clean procedures for long term home care instead of sterile procedures applied at the hospital? I'm asking as I'm wondering if it is ok to use clean powderless gloves instead of sterile gloves when suctioning.

Yes and Yes. You can do things a lot different at home than what they have to do in the hospital because you are used to your own environment. Too many germs in the hospital. My wife does not even use gloves when she suctions me. I have had my trache and vent for over 2 years without a single problem.

we dont use gloves either when we suction my PALS. He's got 5 years on the vent.
