Anatidaephobia
Anatidaephobia is defined as a pervasive, irrational fear that one is being watched by a duck. The anatidaephobic individual fears that no matter where they are or what they are doing, a duck watches. - - - - can anyone imagine having ALS pus this phobia ? ?
At least it might take our minds off ALS ! !

To be fair, some people may have good reason for this...

My mother has the great misfortune of being targeted by birds, wherever she is. She has been attacked by a whole variety of them- multiple occasions of being at the beach and having seagulls do strafing runs, crows knocking her hat off, ravens "escorting" her along pathways, jays screaming at her, pigeons panicking and heading towards her instead of flying away, and so on. If there are birds, my ma will be forced to interact with them in some way.

Best incident was a family picnic at a park with a pond. She sat with her back to the pond and my sister and I watched in horrified silence as a group of Canada geese caught sight of her and all swam over, hopped out of the pond, marched towards my completely oblivious mother, stopped about 10 feet away while a single representative continued on till he "goosed" her in the back of the neck. Then they all solemnly turned around and marched back to the pond. It was completely bizarre.

Very interesting, Fiona. My older son had two experiences of birds flying close and defecating on him. Happened years ago but it still angers him when the family, in humor, brings up the subject ! !

so funny, but of course it's not real, it was a joke created by Gary Larson who creates the Far Side cartoons, which makes it really a very big joke and I've had a good giggle from it!

the fear is not of being attacked by a duck, but that somewhere a duck is always watching you

During the 50s and 60s we were told to...

"Duck and cover." :)

Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds" is fitting to this Thread.
