This is not a joke but felt this would be the right place. Went tonight to the ER for chest pains. When the ER physician was told about my ALS, he asked me what the prognosis was. I thought ''are you kidding me".

They admitted me for observation, the cardiologist with two interns and a student. He asked me what is your prognosis with ALS. This time it was out loud "death".

Ohh, was the response.

Don't they talk about terminal diagnosis in medical school any longer.

Hope you and your heart are OK!

Maybe those docs skipped that class
and their entire neuro rotation
and they never read the newspaper and/or any medical journals
and they've never donated to the cause.

My hunch is that they will remember it now!

I work the switchboard at our local hospital and the Dr's and staff here know very little about ALS. I asked the ER nurses here if they see many people with it. They said they probally only average a couple a year. I never heard much about it until after my dad's diagnosis and it now seems like everyone has it. I would've loved to have seen the faces of everyone when you gave your response. Bet their jaws dropped. lol
But, I still feel optimistic that a cure will be found for ALS. Hope you are doing okay after your ER trip. Glad you were smart enough to go in. Chest pain is nothing to play around with. Take care, Kim
