Kim, no hacking up lungs!

3 posts didn't get posted, and my question about posts did... this doesn't make sense

One of the posts was about searching for Joni's hometown, and checking the national weather service to see if her town got hit. If it did get hit with tornadoes, it wasn't as big as the ones near her, as I couldn't find any info on it. I even checked her town's website, which had no info on the tornadoes on it... which of course, if they have no electricity, they couldn't update anyway.

Hopefully this one will get posted, as I know we're all concerned about her and her hubby.

Down to the dungeon I go!

Helen, I just heard word last night from a friend of mine who was in the line of the tornados in Alabama. She is in an assisted living apartment for seniors and said that she is shocked at the devistation. She said the power has been off and at least at the assisted living apartments, they are running out of food and they are only feeding them once a day and no one has come to help them yet. But given that the area is under great duress it will be awhile before people will be able to get in contact with the world again. Prayers going up for Joni and all who are affected by the tornados.

Kim, I hope your day goes well and you can get relief for your cough.

Ann, hopefully hospice will get easier. I am sure it must be difficult to have to adjust to such a change. Prayer going up for you dear one.

Good morning Joyce, Helen, Mom, Jelly, Liz, Ann, Sadiemae & Aly and everyone! Just wanted to say that Joni and her husband had planned on heading to Florida for the weekend and were supposed to leave Thursday and returning tomorrow. My hope is that they got out of Alabama before all hell broke lose and are having a good time. That's the picture I have in my mind anyway.

I'll talk to you later!
Love,
Marta

ou ladies have been busy this morning - there were a lot of posts to catch up on when I opened the thread. Helen, that basement sound nasty and if I were you I would limit the trips up and down the stairs.

I must confess - I watched the royal wedding yesterday and thought it was a Las Vegas production of the best quality. LOL I wish the young couple a long and happy life.

Last evening friends brought dinner in and we enjoyed a fun evening. After we ate we went to the City Community Center where the Lion's Club sponsored a BUNCO night. I went in the wheelchair and everyone there helped me move from table to table. Throwing the dice was difficult but my partners placed the dice in my hand and I dropped them on the table. It worked well, but I paid the price with shoulder and lower arm hurting last night. Today is a rest day since my son and the grandkids are coming out in the morning. That makes for another tiring day. But I so enjoy seeing them and hearing their stories.

Kimberly, the shoe story was funny -- 4-inch heels and I would be wobbling all over the place. The podiatrist told my mom that her bunions were all caused by wearing all those high heels to impress the boys when she was younger! For every action there is a reaction!

Thanks Marta, imagining them, sunning themselves in Florida, is a much nicer image than her under a pile of rubble. My heart goes out to all affected. This is yet another natural disaster. They are certainly getting common. The power of nature, is something not to be taken for granted.

Ann, wish I could come help as well. Problem is, we would laugh too much and both end up rolling on the floor. Oh and my figure is way too flabby to shower naked with you

I spent ages last night, thinking and researching about tummy tucks. When I finish my weight loss program, I want my saggy skin removed. Of course I may not get to my goal, but after 5 kids I have um........a bit of an overhang. Problem is, it's expensive, the suture line in 40 cm ( ouch) and you need a GA. Will never forget having my lip cancer removed under LA because the anesthetist ( that's what everyone calls them outside USA ) is too chicken to give me a GA with my weird neuro problem. I might look good for once. Any of you lot have an opinion?

Kimberley, keep getting better. Helen go get that basement cleaned. When I moved to this new house, I just could not face the garage full of rubbish that Hubby collects. He was out of town and a friend came knocking, pulled me out of the house and away we went. We got rid of loads of hoardings to a charity. It felt great. I was not too popular, but it was a load off my shoulder.

Joyce. Your little one sounds like she will be a fashionista. I have a couple of them, they are interesting to say the least. My Medschool daughter is the opposite and I rushed her to the shops yesterday to buy her a new outfit for a wedding. We only had half an hour, so I had the shop assistants tossing us clothes. It was funny. Anna has had a wedding every weekend for a month and had worn the same thing. I just couldn't let her do it again

Yay. I have been invited to an Avonex nurse training day in Sydney. I have only had 2 clients so far, but am enjoying the company support. I love Sydney. It's a fab place.

Last Sunday here. I better go for a long walk somewhere. Sam is back to school tomorrow. He's not a happy chapp!

Love Aly

I'm so glad to have every reason to think Joni is doing well and having FUN! Thank you, Marta! Helen, hope the dungeon is less of a mess at this hour!

Diane, had to laugh at your comment about the royal wedding and Vegas. You and your Bunco with friends also gave me a smile...you're such a good sport.

I appreciate your prayers, Joyce, and Aly, yes, we'd no doubt be on the floor, but my "hoyer" is supposed to be able to get me off the floor! We would laugh, for sure.

I've already said goodbye to Dad, who should very much be home by now. Did I tell you all he was confused twice in his thinking and arrived 3 hours before we had agreed on? All of us--my brothers and I-- want him to stop driving. It would make his life very altered if he stopped, but we are concerned for others' safety on the road.

Now that I've had a nap and thought it through, I have decided that as of now, I will ride this out with the Hospice Aide, knowing I'm the oddball--they simply aren't used to or familiar with ALS problems. Cancer is surely their main target. I'll hope to get the shower/shampoo on Wednesdays and see what she can do when I'm already in bed on Fridays, and hopefully have Phil do my transfers into bed. I need to be patient...one day I may well be very grateful for her help, and she's great at flipping me around with the drawpad, lol. I needed someone able to do that, rather than use brute strength to move me (Phil's method). It's a wonder what a difference in attitude comes by way of a nap!

Ann, I let ny family know your Dad was o the roads, so thery decided to stray on the Westren Shore. LOL Is rthis hospice's 1st time worlking with an ALS patient? Maybe you nede to get Phil to wrtite down a list of "do's and don'ts". I wish I also could come and help; but it sort of seems like "the blind leadimg the blind".

Dianne, don't tire yuorself out. And plaese don't let them share any of their germs with yuo! I thimk I am going t o bite the bullert and take some couhg medivine.

Helen, did the dungeon monmstre get you? I hope yuo get out soon.

And Aly, yuo pulled a "ME". Our house wsA a boardimg house for the lovcal mill (hence the 10 bedrooms amd no closets). Well, the prevoius owmer had talken 1 of the BR and turmed it into a giant walk in closert; whicjh my selgfish husband took claim to. One week, (while he was away, of cuorse) Limdsay and I wemt in amd bagged up his clohtes and moved thjem to a work room that he was to fimish with cedar liming. Now he is a PE Teacher; so dress clorthes are not om the top of his list, but we counted like 40 pr of kahki shorts, 40 blue, amd about 20 blaxck, not coumting thje nylon type! Why in the world wuold 1 person meed thjat namy shorts? I could piut my clothes in 1 laundry basket! Well, we dispoesd of the clohtes from the old school districvt he no lomger worked for and a few orthers (I use tjhat term looesly) and turmed the closet back intro a BR. Boy did the SH*T hit the fan. He hadm't wporn sone of those clorthes im yrs. so wjy keep them. I can'yt wait for hin to leavre agaim, I am throwimg his reclimer out mext . Mayne he will get the himt and not cone back! What cam I say, "Men, yuo can't live with then, you can't libe with them". (And I meant tjhat.) Excluding, Phil and Tim of cuores!

Hi Ann! I agree with you regarding the wonder of the difference a nap/sleep makes in our view of things. I really think our little brains keep working on a solution to percieved problems while we sleep. It affords us unemotional rational thought. I wish I could have unemotional rational thought at will but it seems to be a struggle sometimes. Oh well, onward and upward!

It's a little chilly here today. It's almost 3:30 and I'm still in my jammies. I'm bathed and relatively civilized looking but got back in to the jammies for comfort. We'll go out to dinner later with some friends we haven't seen in awhile. I let her know what we've been dealing with of late so as not to scare them when they notice something's changed. So, it should be okay.

Brad has been working or should I say re-working the compost bin. He got a little carried away with grass clippings and that's about all that was in the existing bins after the mice had their way. So he hauled the contents off to the reclamation center and is building a new and smaller compost bin. Does anyone here know how to do proper composting? It seems we just managed to keep the field mice fat and happy with our last attempt.

Hi Marta, first--I like that wish to have "unemotional rational thought at will". Maybe when I grow up!

We add manure to the compost, Marta. Currently from our chickens, but previously cow or horse manure. Let me say, you need some leaves or shredded paper...and a lot of it, to counteract a lot of nitrogen (grass clippings).

Our veggie garden is next to the chicken run, with the compost on the other side of a wide path. Phil spent lots of time putting an irrigation system in, underground, today. The birds fussed if he dropped things too loudly, lol. Daddy Phil's already planted 12 tomato plants for chickens and us!

Hi All,

Well, I'm back from the 110 year old dungeon of a basement... Good news is, I didn't fall this time, between the numerous chairs that are now out of my house and down there, my cane, and my walker. But I couldn't get up that big step to the back yard the first time I was down there, finally had to crawl out, and then took me seems like forever to get my butt onto a big rock so I could get back onto the scooter. Now mind you, I was trying to get out of the basement because I finished an entire soda, and hadn't had lunch yet, so I had to GO! By the time I got to the front of the house and tried to walk up my steps, my knees wobbled, I grabbed onto the railing, and peed my pants a bit!

Thank goodness I managed to get into the bathroom (3 steps down to my first floor bathroom) and collapsed onto the toilet! And thank goodness for minipads is all I can say (sorry for the details guys!)...

I did recover after eating lunch, and managed to get down there again and finished organizing some of the rooms, mostly from the walker. Still needs to be vacuumed, but looks much better now. And this time when I had to go up the large step to the backyard, my friend Wendy (she's such a sweetheart, she's been over the last 4 Saturdays helping me!) pulled me while I used my cane and the edge of the door to pull myself up.

And we had our FIRST cookout of the year tonight, burgers and hot dogs on the (formerly disgusting) grill... I made potato salad, tossed salad and best yet... strawberry daiqueries! Nice ending to all that work, and now, I'm going off to bed!

My my Helen! What a women! You sure have a lot more energy and nerve than I! And I'm with Mom! But I'll have my daquiri loaded please!

Ann, I'll suggest cow manure to Bradley for our next attempt. I'm looking forward to planting some tomatoes and cucumbers and maybe a few strawberrys this year. It sounds like your husband is like mine, always has a big project going on. ; ) I admire that. I'm content to sit quietly listening to music and reading all day.

Being with our old friends for dinner was so nice. We haven't see each other for over a year and she called out of the blue. Good friends just pick up where you've left off it seems. It's great.

Well, it's watching 1/2 of Satruday Night Live and then off to bed. I hope you all sleep well tonight and every night! xoxo

Helen, you are such a trooper. Your bladder can be forgiven, sometimes when I sneeze..........

I hope wright is fine. There must be so many people terribly affected by your big storms

I spent some time on google earth, working out where some of you live. I need to keep my research going. It's really quite interesting.
You all seem to live in such tiny towns ! I went for a walk with Hubby and son. There were a few steep hills, not good. I am so tired, I just want to cry my eyes out, but I need to cook dinner. It never really stops for us mums does it?

My daughter Charlotte is graduating in a couple of days. It should be fun. A chance to dress up for once. I have bought a lovely new red dress and I need an opportunity to wear it

Sleep well everyone. Nighty night, and sweet dreams to you all
