Liz, I am so proud of you! And your new picture is beautiful. And yes, I did have a "brain fart", but gross way to put it, you nut! Are you boxing now--has it begun?

Kimberly, hurray for Hannah! You can be very proud of her!

Aly, I know exactly what you mean about the brain needing more to do while the body just cannot handle it. Phil has placed all my books in their new home (our house, remodeled), and told me that not including the classics, there are 45 feet of my books. Reading and hooking rugs were my activities when I was unable to do more demanding things. I'm really happy for your continued persistence in getting into ship-shape.

Helen, I am very glad you weren't in the path of the tornadoes. One of my bros finished school in Springfield, and later lived fairly near, so I was trying to follow that system. So, so glad you are safe.

Hospice has figured out what to do. One woman cannot manage this shower chair (ALSA loaner) which is super deep in the seat, making for a lot of struggle holding me in the chair while getting me "slung". My fill-in aide yesterday is lovely and will join my other aide, so I get two instead of one aide for showering. (A plastic donut is in the chair behind me while showering--giving me something to lean back against.) There is no way to express my appreciation for their kindness and help.

I know I'm missing lots of folks, but know you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi there, we had an 8 hour power cut. Boy it's awkward without power when you have an electric pump for water. Can't even flush the loo. Well when you gotta go, you gotta go
Guess what I did today............go on guess...."..........I went..........shopping. Oh yes I did. My addiction is still going strong. I wonder if they have a patch for it. I could create a patch for compulsive shopping and would make a fortune. In fact I could just put some perfume on a cute little floral sticky patch, sell it saying it works and the placebo effect will make me millions, then I can keep shopping.
Helen can do the graphic design, away we go. You won't have to sell your house Helen. We could send some profits to run this forum. Not too much cause I need to shop........remember

Ann sooooo glad they have sorted it out and you will have safe enjoyable showers.

Well I am off to the beach tomorrow, enjoying the storm that's coming. Don't want to go boo hoo. Then early Tuesday I am off to shaky Christchurch to be with liv. I am going to pop into the Christchurch neurology clinical trial unit, and then my trip is tax deductibl,e clever huh. I am full of clever ideas. I am staying with my accountant, who is also a very good friend! When I get back it's off to Auckland for my neurology appointment, which I am ridiculously nervous about. Probably because I may be used as a human pin cushion again. I am sure I can flutter my eye lashes and say NO WAY. I have such power over these mem lol. Do I want to know what's causing my new dent on my good leg? I don't think so.

You will all be bored with my long post, so sorry all. Kiss cuddle hug hug cuddle to you all.

Your idiotic kiwi nutcase friend
Aly

just woke up after a very painful day yesterday. got to my PALS house and went to work. was bending over to clean out the suction machine- and threw my back out. i couldnt move it hurt so much. i eventually made it out into the living room and sat on the couch and just bawled. His mom wanted to call an ambulance for me, but i refused. i dont have insurance, so no way. I took 800mg of Ibubrofen hoping it would take the edge off. Nope. Didnt touch it.
After I sat for about 1 1/2 hours, i got up and tried to make it out to my car to drive home. Couldnt. Had to use a walker, and that was still difficult. Took almost 15 mins to get out to my car. Probably shouldnt have drove, but i didnt have any other option.

got home, crawled into my house and layed on the couch for two hours. then it took 10 mins to sit up from a laying position. I made my way to the bathroom and when i returned, i awoke my roomate and told her i needed to go the the hospital.

We went and the dr and nurse were very sweet and funny. then.... ugh... the nurse tells me i need to change into a gown so the dr can really examine me. Boy did i turn red. lets just say i didnt have the most appropriate underwear on for a dr visit. But in my defense i didnt know i was going that day and i couldnt get upstairs to change first.

So i got an IV and the gave me a shot of morphine and atavan. the morphine didnt really do much other then get me all loopy so they gave me another shot of it. WOW. I was flying high. they released me with scripts for pain meds and muscle relaxers and naproxen.
I took the pain meds and muscle relaxers at about 6 last night. i was sleeping by 7 and didnt get up until 10:30 this morning. Knocked me out!

So i have to rest for a couple days. Hopfully not too long. Dont want my PALS stuck in bed for too long- he's got some sores starting.

thats my story and i m sticking to it! and darn it- i want a frickin CIG! today is day 4.... pisses me off....

oh and no- no boxing yet.

hey all! Been trying to keep up since I haven't been in for a while. Liz so sorry you hurt your back! Are you with an agency to provide caregiving services? They should have insurance if you hurt yourself during your job. I do pray that you have a speedy recovery. I had to chuckle about your undies situation! Maybe you should carry a spare 'appropriate' undie in your purse...just in case! I hope you continue to stay off the cigs. The cravings will calm down the longer you stay off them. They say it takes 4 weeks to break a habit, 6 weeks to get the nicotine out of the bloodstream and another 6 months to get it completely out of the brain! So hang in there, I am speaking from experience. Its well worth it!

Aly your compultion to buy is most likely a fill in for eating less. You gotta have something to do right!? We also have an electric pump for our water and when the electric goes out, we have extra water in our storage just in case we need it. During windstorms we fill the bath tub with water. That way if the power goes out we have flushing water. Works great!

Ann so glad things are working better with the showering. I wonder if you should get yourself one of the new fangle book readers that people have. That way you can download new books and it not take up so much space!

I have had an eventful week this week. My hubby John, was given a pink slip so to speak, on Tuesday. He has been the backbone of that company for over 20 years. And when it was sold to this new group, they have decided that they did not know how to work with a remote developer and so they kicked him out. So now that the shock is wearing off we are trying to come to grips and our faith that God is in control of everything..something better should come along. Not many will hire a 55 year old sr. programmer who is so close to retirement. He has never been without a job before.

Also dealing with the news that my big bro cancer is unoperatable and that they will not put him on the liver transplant list. So he starts aggressive chemo today that is more toxic/aggressive then the stuff he had before when it was first in his pancreas. Again, our faith in God will pull us through regardless of what happens.

Now, I gotta get ready for a yard sale that will happen in a week. So much junk setting around here and the cash would be nice if anyone wants to buy it! For those who I haven't mentioned...still thinking of you and hope your days are fill with excitement and adventure!

joyce- thanks for the well wishes. i had quit for 2 1/2 years and started up again for about 2-3 weeks before i quit again.
i do have to say, for me anyway- that it never completely leaves my mind. yes the cravings go away for the most part, but every now and then i would get blindsided by a doosey. but quitting this time is alot easier than the last time.
As for the insurance stuff- i dont work for an agency. My PALS is a friend, so Im technically self employed. we dont go thru anyone. much easier that way.

Joyce, prayers for John to be employed asap--and peace while you watch. Prayers also for your brother. I'm so very sorry and hope he has peace for the eternal future.

I wish you well in your yard sale--hope you don't overdo. Regarding the Kindle, I've certainly thought about it, but it requires pressing to turn pages. Also getting propped up for reading. I wonder if Phil would like something new on his "To Do" list....

Kimberly, it's Lori who is being gut-punched by the gov, and she's "sadiemae"--names are SO confusing. If I hadn't already known her, I'd be off for sure. In fact, people whose names I know (along with spouses and children's names) I still have to go check in my messages sometimes.

I am proud of Hannah! And I have nothing to do with her success! LOL, She did very, very well indeed. And, yikes, the dress is such a disappointment. I am sorry you went through so much and now it needs to be returned. That's happened to me. I didn't like to shop so found through catalogs what fit and held up well, then waited for sales and ordered both for me and for Phil. This was when I could still try things on and dress myself.

Liz, dear Liz, I am both very proud of your quitting smoking and also very sorry for your back. I believe I've been in very similar straits with my back several times. Thermacare heat wraps, worn over 8 hours (rule breaking again) helped. But I found one of my favorite doctors due to my back, a "D. O." Neurologist who left his two man practice and started up a MusculoSkeletal Clinic. He was the "back whisperer", lol. Painlessly, he'd press on something (my main problem was the sacroiliac joint getting stuck), have his specially trained PTs treat me once a week, and within a month check me himself and set me free. He also taught me many exercises (stretching and pelvic tilt) so I'd stay in good shape. Sorry for the too-long description.

I hope you are totally set free of the desire to smoke this time. I (speaking personally--did use to smoke) found that freedom of desire came when I whole heartedly wanted to quit, for my own sake--I had to take ownership of the need to quit. It made a huge difference and kept my nose from acting like a bloodhound when smokers were around.

Aly, wish you could make a patch that works for all addictions, sell it at a low enough rate everyone could afford it (numbers of sales making the money!) and take care of all the needs of the forum pals and cals. Stay safe in all your travels. And yes, we also have an electric water pump, but Super Phil put in an old fashion hand pump for emergencies...which we have surely had over the years.

Joni, Marta, Diane, Avril, Meg and Laurel! Hi! --- and everyone else--I wish you a wonderful day or night...in fact--both!

So I am emptying the dishwasher.......Hubby is watching and chatting. I sat down when I was finished and asked H why he had thought it ok to not help. I got a strange look and he said. Why should I? If you leave it, someone usually empties it! That someone is me, I said.

Needless to say, H cooked dinner last night and the dishes are still on the bench this morning. I am waiting for the "someone" to clean up......still waiting

Enough grumbling. Kimberly you must be so proud of Hannah.

Have a lovely weekend all. Oh and my back garden is now dog proof. Hubby ended up being a good builder and the gates arrived and were put up yesterday. Looks great. Jake and Ruby were not impressed, especially when I went to feed my pony without them ha ha.

Love Aly

Helen, I hope you don't live close to all the horrible destruction of the tornadoes! How awful! God must be very angry at this whole world the way the weather and earth is behaving! Truly bizarre!

Hi Sweet Ann! Miss talking to you.

I don't know why I don't post much any more. My mind seems to be going, I swear. I mean it too. I was notarizing something for my boss yesteday and couldn't remember how to spell Larimer. I know how to spell Larimer! I just couldn't remember right then. I felt so stupid! Is this normal? Not for me usually. I think I'm losing it. Little stuff like that happens all the time lately. I think it would be okay to totally lose my mind but this in and out nonesense? I don't like it. My mind either has to go or stay. Not both. People are going to start to look at me sideways. Or at least more sideways than they usually do.

I fell at work today. Fridays are pretty quiet and we close for 1/2 the day so not very many people were around. I managed to pick myself up with only a smoosed boob and a skinned knee. I'm okay but it got me wondering what would have happened if I'd cracked my head open. Nobody knew I'd fallen. I asked the intern in the next room if she'd heard a loud bump and she said she had. I asked her to check on me if that should happen again in case I needed help. Kind of scary!

Aly Pie, I think you should pitch a demure hissy fit and get those young ones to help you out. I know for a fact that they won't do anything unless specfically asked. I remember being the same way when I was a kid. If you didn't say it then I didn't do it. Tha't just how young ones are. Not very self motivated.

Dear Joyce, I'm sorry about your hubby's pink slip, and your poor brothers challenges. I'll pray extra hard for you and yours. Hope you do well with the yard sale too!

Liz, I quit for two years, then started up again due to stress, then I felt so stinky and unattractive and weak that I just quit for good. I just didn't want anything to have any power over me like that. That was 20 some years ago. I'm glad I did it.

I love all of ya. Have a great evening!

Marta

Hi all, been reading but not posting much... my "good" computer is on the fritz, and had to bring it for outside help. I usually can fix it myself, but not this time. At least I was able to get the files I needed off of it so I could finish a project. Luckily I'm usually pretty good about keeping my files backed up in several places, and then I have to figure out which ones I want to keep!

The tornadoes (latest count was there were 3, and I think they had winds of 130+ miles per hour)... I guess 19 miles of destruction. It's amazing the damage they caused. One house was picked up and turned upside down. They're finding paper 60 miles away in another town. We got nasty weather, especially scary lightning, but it stayed away. we get "nor'eastern" (think "The Perfect Storm" movie) which is basically a blizzard with hurricane-force winds at times are the worst we usually get. Most hurricanes that survive long enough to come up here aren't usually strong enough to do too much, with a few exceptions. I usually always fill my bathtub with water when we're expecting a bad storm as well, and in the winter I try to keep extra jugs of water around which I fill before a nasty storm is forecast. We have state water from reservoirs, and actually 1/3 of our town is the Sudbury Reservoir. Which I still have trouble spelling! So we don't lose our water if we lose our power, but if the water supply got damaged, we'd be in trouble. Better safe than sorry anyway, and I'd rather be able to flush, than not flush with 4 guys in this house.

I know I'm not going to remember everything going on, but... Aly, you go shop all you want to, it's better than eating! Just be sure to keep the tags, and go return everything the next week! Or you could shop for stuff that a homeless shelter may need, they always need clean underwear and socks, for instance. Liz, I feel for you! Really sucks when your back is out... I've had sciatic nerve for so long in my lower back and legs, and now the arthritis and add to it the weakness from this crappy disease, and I don't get around nearly as much as I'd like to. Which is way less than I used to to begin with! I have to tell you ALL again, if you have pain and swelling, check out nikken magnets, and at least get the backpad and/or the magnet rollers to ease your pain. It works way better than anything else I've ever tried, heat or cold does not help as much. Reiki also helps me with pain, and I learned it from my sister-in-law, and put it to good use during the scary storms the other night on my roommate who was freaking out a bit. A little over-wrought at times, that one. It calmed her right down.

Marta, a friend of mine from work 20+ years ago told me when I first met her, that if she didn't respond to me when I talked to her, to pick up the soda on her desk and make her drink it. She had childhood diabetes, and learned her own coping methods as well. It's good that you let others know that your balance sucks, and to listen for you. And don't worry about forgetting how to spell stuff, I do that all the time.... not wait a minute, what was I saying? Seriously, I think Liz called it a brain fart or something else poetic, but everyone does it, especially when stressed about stuff like... falling!

Joyce, good to see you back, my boys are going up there in July! Too bad Sara Palin doesn't stay there though, she's all over the news being cutesy about her little bus tour... spent yesterday in NH I guess. Of course the press corp are following around like little puppy dogs. And hey, how 'bout John Edwards getting indicted? Wow, too bad he never learned to keep his pants zipped up!

Hi to everyone else, Lori, please tell us you've contacted your State Senator about the VA kicking your husband off! Laurel, Marta, Avril, any guys left here? Hope everyone is fine, and guess what? I actually have a showing on Monday for my house... woo hoo!

OK, remember, check out the magnets! I'm NOT gonna tell you again, they work!

Love ya!

Hi Joni! Hi Kimberly!

Helen, I'm sending good house selling/buying energy your way! Sometimes it works so be ready for it!

I'm just so embarassed when I have a brain flatulation. LOL! My boss is sweet and very understanding. I just felt so dumb! I've spelled that word thousands of times and can spell it with no problem now. Just for a few minutes my brain froze up or something. Very weird. Hope that's not going to be the norm.

Love to you all,

Marta
