In The Attic

Maybe I was an odd child, but it wasn't the basement that scared me, it was the attic. Our basement was well lit, but the attic was a different story. I remember my Mom going up there for short periods of time. Sometimes, it was just prior to holidays to retrieve decorations or even to retrieve a section of gift wrapping that Mom had saved that she liked. Disability - Not

I was turned down for soc sec disability for a really dumb reason. Since I am retired, I am eligible if I do not have 5 years of working within the last 10 years. Did you understand that? Even though I have worked since I was 15 and paying into the system for 40 years, it does not count if have I haven't worked and paid into it lately. You have got to be kidding, I think that is like paying into the pension fund and dying the month before you are eligible to draw benefits. So now I have the...

Positive reinforcement

I finally started PT this week. The first session was basically measuring what use I still had in my legs and we worked on some new exercises. I went home stiff and sore, but felt like I really accomplished something. I also felt that now I had a tool to watch the progression and also to use the muscles not affected yet to their potention. My husband took the exercise sheets and put them in plastic sheets and started a notebook for me. When I do my exercises, once a day working up to twice a day....

This picture is the last time my sisters and my brother were together June 2011 at a fundraiser for Richard to help defray his expenses fighting Liver Cancer which he lost shortly afterwards. It is my sister Kathy (left) myself and on the right my sister Leigh and seated below us, Richard.

Afraid to die

I’m frightened to sleep, in case I choke
As also when I eat and this is no joke
Even drinking a drink, a cup of coffee or tea
Goes down the wrong way believe you me

Leaves you afraid, fighting for your breath
Wondering is this it, is this your death
There is no cure for what brings this on
Nothing at all, there is truly none

So do I sit up at night afraid to sleep
