View Full Version : Feeling old...

Jim got his medicare card today - find it kinda funny. Working in the med field always associated medicare with "old" people (no offense!) Medicare is something my dad and grandpa get - not my husband.

Also "offically" lost my part-time job today. After cutting my hours - I got called in today - drove over an hour each way - to find out I was laid off with no promise of rehire. I did get 2 weeks pay - but of course the amount was cut because my hours were cut last month - very convient!

I did cry and all on my way home - but am now convinced more than ever this is God's plan. With all the people praying for us it has to be. I was questioning the decision of going back. (Going in was convinced that they had ok'd another position that was mentioned 2 weeks ago.) Been more wary of Jim's care of the kids - guess now I know the answer. Just need to finish this part of the test and make ends meet!

Plus side - we found a great attorney to take our SSDI effective date appeal - hoping this won't go on to long!

Yesterday - he couldn't help Mikayla with her homework (she's in Kindergarten), he didn't understand it. Then I was working with teaching her money and he kept telling her a quarter was a nickel - No wonder the kid's confused!! ;)

Trying to see the silver lining -- will try to value each day we have together -- worth more than that stupid job!!

Shelley,

Good for you. If you can see the good in everything , then things have a way of working themselves out.

Don't feel old. Its experience.

I'm 18 with 32 years of experience.

Glen's mask is a little scary...but moving on. Just remember that you are doing the best you can with what you have to work with. Your advantage, as a woman, is that you can acknowledge your feelings, cry, and get on with the business at hand. If anyone said it would be pretty, they stretched the truth a bit.

Shelly I know what you mean it breaks my heart to see my son going on ss & disability but just try to keep things as positive as poss. My is going to dress up like Lou for Holloween I'm sure this is not unique but he is dealing. We were thinking of useing a bat for a cane but didn't think they would let him in to many bars w/ a Baseball Bat. Keep looking for those silver linings.

Shelly,

I'm really sorry your husband is having the FTD troubles. It has to be a hard thing to witness.

We're pulling for you!

Shelley, I'm very sorry, that has got to be so hard dealing with these twin problems of FTD and ALS. Do they have any kind of prognosis for Jim in these cases, in terms of how his mental changes will progress? We have a lady in our local ALS support group whose husband has FTD and she seemed to say that it had kind of stabilized eventually even as the ALS progressed. I hope something like that happens for you, I can only imagine how heartbreaking it is to see your husband undergoing these changes in his body and his mind.

They are not "guessing" right now - still going through the testing before their will be anything else - PET scan in 2wks - hope that will shed a light. I often think he hasn't changed much. Then something will hit me. Like yesterday - he came for the ride when I offically got laid off from hospital - no response - not an I'm sorry, nothing - stone faced. Then as I am sitting there driving home - "I'm hungry - what are we doing for dinner" - really?

Today - he couldn't carve the pumpkins for Halloween. It took him an hour and 3 breaks to carve one small thing - I ended up finishing it and 4 others. Little things like that are what get me. These are the changes that only I notice -since they are small and day-to-day things - but God are they adding up!

God bless you, Shelley. You have been in my thoughts quite often lately. Oh, I know some days seem like this madness will never end. You are being prayed for, girl. Take care of YOURSELF.
