View Full Version : Virtual Halloween!
Let's get ready for Halloween- prizes given for best costume! (to be determined later)
I'll start- I want to be Superwoman, not to fight off bad guys, but because I have been so busy lately, I feel like I am spinning the way she did- she would click her wrist bands together & spin (to get her powers?? )
Although, I am trying to convince Jim I AM Superwoman! So far, he's not buying it.
Maybe I should put on the costume?!? LOL

My dearest Mare, you are talking about Wonder Woman. She was one of my favourite heroines as a child, along with all of the Charlie's Angels and The Bionic Woman. Wonder Woman drove around in an invisible plane! It was so cool.
I don't know what I want to be for virtual Halloween. I will give it some thought... but I find this thread entertaining and fun. Good idea, Mare! Can I have a virtual trick or treat now? Preferably chocolate, thanks.
I stand corrected! You're right- WONDER WOMAN! (geez, you'd think I'd get my own thread right!LOL)
You do deserve a special chocolate for helping me; but, the rule is you have to show up in a costume & then request a treat.

Well, I am a witch this Halloween. I wore orange and black socks up to my knees. A black skirt and a black Halloween sweater. I put a real fun sticker on my face of a black spider in a web. My hat was the best. Tall black hat with green streamers . Painted my finger nails black. Had some ladies over for lunch and a best hat doorprize. It was so fun. I just love Halloween.... I sure hope I'm a good witch in my next life and not the bad one???? Linda

Grandpa! I love Reese's!
I forget how to upload pics in a post! I'm sending you candy corn!
I'm ALWAYS a pirate wench, as its the only costume I own. And I don't know where my hat is, so I may not even be that this year! Ernie got a sweatshirt that says "little monster" it has dinosaur type spikes going up the back and on the hood. Hopefully this link to picture works (I am so tired!)

In case anyone else wants to give out some candy here's how.
Go to Google, put in Halloween Candy, change it from web to images, select the image that you want, select "see full size image" and then copy the url for the image (the web address at the top of your browser), go back to the forum post and click on the "insert image" icon (third from the right) and paste the image url in and voila!
The only thing to watch out for is the image size, too big and you will have a huge picture to deal with. Anything under 50k is probably good.
Your friendly candy dispenser :twisted::twisted:

OH Rose, those wax bottles full of sweet liquid.
That is a sweet childhood memory.
We had a school bus that would stop at a candy store on the way home on fridays.
Rosella , ever been to Morin Heights ?
Glen
Glen, I grew up in Miami, and my grandparents lived near a little mom & pop store. My granddaddy would walk there every morning and get his newspaper. He never wanted it delivered, it was his routine. Sometimes he would bring back donuts (he called them "sinkers") ~ chocolate iced cake donuts, to be precise. My brother and I would walk there just for the wax bottles, and fire balls, Sweet tarts too, but the main attraction was the wax syrupy stuff. I can still remember exactly where the candy rack was in the store.

10-30-2009, 09:56 PM
Oh yes .
Remember the jaw-breakers, cherry balls, mint leaves, licorice babies, and the paper strips with all of those sugar drops on them.
Yes , 50 cents and you had enough candy to make you sick.
Double Bubble was a penny a piece back then.

Speaking of which , has anyone tried to chew gum lately ?
Did you drown ? I am sure I looked like CUJO the last time I chewed gum.
I got out of the habit of chewing gum years ago (doesn't really mix with the flight attendant image) but I tried some recently and it kept trying to fall out of the corners of my mouth, like it was getting away from me or something. I'll bet I can't blow bubbles anymore either:-(..... Probably my legs are really distracting you tonight, aren't they? Yes, I sure can fill out a uniform. LOL. Just in case you can't really make out my special costume avatar, here's a better look: (PS, I actually located "Nurse Rose", but I'm having too much fun with this cutie)

When I was a kid, there was a drug store (pharmacy) in the neighborhood that had a penny candy counter (all glass) and a coke machine with 10oz bottles of coke for a dime.
One of my favorite pieces of candy to buy was the red licorice whip. You could also buy small bottles of pure concentrate cinnamon oil with which to make cinnamon toothpicks.
This was also the store my mom use to come home from with a box wrapped in brown paper. The specially wrapped box always wound up in the hall closet next to the bathroom. When opened, it contained pads of some sort. I could never get the logic of having the box wrapped if all you were going to do was unwrap it when you got home but then, I was just a kid.
P.S. I don't think they wrap the boxes anymore!

Rosella , ever been to Morin Heights ?
Glen, I have been to Morin Heights and it is beautiful up there but I was there for work-- I used to work at Quebec's TV music station (think French MuchMusic or MTV) and we went to Morin Heights to interview a French pop star at a recording studio up there (it's also where the Police recorded Ghost in the Machine which I thought was really exciting.) Anyway all that to say, that I did enjoy the scenery but I didn't really get to spend any quality time there.
Have you been to Morin Heights?
GlenBrittle
10-31-2009, 07:53 AM
Yes I have. A few times.
I went to public school there for 7 years. I manage to drive up there every couple of years just to see the changes.

No pumpkins ?
Must be Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater's fault. See, Barry has a photo as evidence.

Ernie has been helping answer the door, and, (this should tell you something) I've had a few parents ask me if that was "Ernie" apparently he's got a reputation! And, as to his pose for the first picture, what can I say, he has no modesty!
About the no pumpkins, well, we have pumpkins, two cinderella and two traditional, but we also have slugs, which have been a real bane this year. They've chewed big holes in my decorative kale. But anyway, tonight, some of the trick or treaters saw there were slugs on the pumpkins, and they were just fascinated, the slugs almost upstaged the candy.
BarryG
10-31-2009, 07:00 PM
Candy slugs! How yummy!
Actually, Barry.... beer is a good trap for slugs, but I think we'd need a tanker to get rid of them all! The other day my one son said he was going to go pour the slugs another beer, he pours some in the bowl ~ mind you, its a little before noon on a Sunday ~ and he says, what the hell, takes a big slug of it (get it???) and then looks at me, and asks: aren't carbonated beverages easier 8) for me to swallow? So I polished the rest off. 8)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYBODY !!!!!
Hope all your little ones have a great time. After Christmas, this was my kids favorite holiday.
Big shout out to Barry for dispensing to the "trick or treaters"; and to everyone else who contributed to tooth decay!
Looks like little Wyatt won the cutest award, and his prize will leave him with a year long sugar high!
Rose, you leave the guys with a different kind of high (?) !!!
And to those with the "Adams Family" theme; you really have your finger on the pulse of what is hip & happenin'! Just read in the New York Times that a new musical, "The Adams Family", will open on Broadway in March, starring Nathan Lane & Bebe Neurwith!
Should be a hit with those two!!!
(I have no connection with this production- Al, JoelC, Hoping, David!!! LOL)
Al, maybe next year you can try another costume- 6yrs. in a row as a fireman?
Everyone knows who you are by now!!! LOL Hugs to our fearless leader!!!
