Haley Stevens was the 16 year old girl in my city that was hit hard with ALS. I was at her high school tuning a piano in the choir room this evening and the choir director informed me the memorial service was this past Saturday.
She fought very hard but the disease attacked her motor neurons mercilessly.
The choir director and students still raise funds to fight ALS in memory of their fallen friend, Haley. In fact, there were blow-pop trees in the choir room filled with 25 cent blow-pops for sale during the school open house tonight. They also have a walk scheduled in a local park this weekend and have raised $450 so far. The choir will be singing requested songs for $10 per song; so far, the list has grown to 45 requests.
Just thought I'd share the news that this young lady isn't suffering anymore.

Kim, how tragic. I can't stand the thought of anyone so young having to fight this. I'm glad she is at peace, but it is terrible.
Thank you for letting us know ... and giving us a reality check, that no one is safe.

Kim, I am very sorry to hear about Haley. It is one thing when this damn disease attacks us old farts but when someone as young as her gets it it is just not right. It is good that the other kids are raising money in her name but I wish that they didn't have to. My condolences to her family and friends.

So sad!!! May she now be all that she was never able to be while she lived on this earth!
Stories such this are hard to comprehend. This is supposed to be an older person's disease. It just isn't fair.

This saddens me to no end. At least Haley isn't suffering anymore but her story is overwhelmingly unfair. I hope her family is well supported and gains the strength to get through this.
