Hi,
My son has developed a head cold. Is there anything I should be watching for. He is coughing a lot and nose is running. He has lost the use of his hands and his speech is almost gone. I' worried about his breathing and swallowing. Any one have any experience with ALS patients and colds?
Thanks,
Kathy:sad:

Kathy, I had a head and chest cold last fall and it was awful. That was before I got my PEG and I had very little energy to fight the cold. I guess I don't have any real advice to give except the usual, drink lots and rest. Choking on the added phlem would be my concern, I guess that his swallowing is not good if his speech is almost gone. Do you have a suction machine? If not, I would try to get one. All the best and I hope that he gets better soon.

Barry,
Thanks. I have a suction machine that I used for my Mother after her strokes. I will go get it just in case.
