hi, want to know what you think about this. has anyoneThat's where the doctor/pastor is and people from all over the world come to see him to get healed of various diseases. There have been many miracles taking place there. Dr. Henry Wright is his name and he was in Albuquerque a few years ago and I wanted Lupe to go then because it was the closest he'd ever been to El Paso. It takes 2 days to get there and then you stay for a week. He gets to the root of things to help people heal. She can check him out on pleasantvalleychurch.net. Remember, we heard him on line and he was saying that ALS is caused by anger and some other things. He heals people Biblically - he can prove it. It's not a fly by night outfit. If she doesn't feel comfortable that's ok, but there are a lot of people who go to get healed and they do!!! Maybe she doesn't want to be healed. Talk to you later.
heared of it.

As a Christian I totally believe in miraculous healings, but they do not happen that often for various reasons. I am not going to discount this persons alleged success, but he has already lost a lot of credibility saying ALS is caused by anger.

I'd like to know how he discovered anger causes ALS! I wonder, how angry can you get and still be safe from getting the disease? How do you know if you've crossed the line? For people that only have half of ALS (only upper or lower motor neuron trouble), are they in more danger of coming down with the full blown version if they get too angry?
Boy, this just opens up a whole lot of questions for me. From now on, I'm Mr. Nice Guy!
(Wait a minute - it seems to me that I read somewhere that ALS has been nicknamed, "The Nice Guy's Disease"?)
OOOOH man! I'm in a quandry!

You can't be serious. Listen, there are healers out there, but this guy isn't one of them.
Please don't be fooled by a snake oil salesman pretending to be a faith healer.

I say that like, What are people thinking about my God. They think He is just looking down and when someone gets angry Bam, terrible disease is cast upon you for some kind of punishment. You say this fraud heals Biblically, well he would have to have some small knowledge of the bible first. The Bible says to be angry and sin not. It does not say get angry and then I will give you ALS. Jesus got angry in the temple and walked away unscaved. I believe in healing but I have never seen it come through anyone claiming first of all, THEY ARE THE HEALER and I have never seen it happen where money or publicity were involved, it takes being humble for God to use you not Fame and fortune.Tell your friend you want to be healed and she may pray for you, that you don't need this guy to get the job done.

I am brand new to the forum. This is my first blog. My husband was diagnosed in 8/07 at Mass General in Boston, & as you all know that started the roller coaster ride of our lives. We have a very strong faith--I have been in Sunday School & church every Sunday since I was 2 weeks old. This ALS experience has tested that faith in a way that has actually scared me. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that I would question Jesus' love for me or God's existence altogether; but here I am facing all those questions. I have a friend who has been a caretaker for a spouse with MS, and he encouraged me to find a support group. Reading these blogs has already shown me that there are people out there who understand how I feel. In my life I have always been the encourager, so now I feel I have nothing to give. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my husband, the love of my life, is doing very well. He has undergone some alternative treatments, and it appears to be helping.

Belle, I am happy to hear that your husband is doing well. The best advice I can give is to do whatever it takes to maintain a positive attitude (as much as possible) in the face of this disease. The will to fight and to live are what makes "miracles" happen when battling illnesses. Having moral support doesn't hurt either and, very importantly, maintaining good nutrition and keeping the weight up to have the strength and reserves to keep going and maintaining a good quality of life.
I'm sorry I don't buy "faith healers." If they charge money for their services then I just don't buy it at all! I can't stand when people use religion or faith to sell anything. If anger caused ALS then I must have just caught it!

Thank you, thelma313. I am so sorry about your dad. I hope he is holding his own, it is so hard to have to watch as someone you love is struggling. We are blessed with unbelievable support from everyone around us, our family, our friends, our church family, neighbors, etc. The other day a complete stranger who happens to know of our situation did something very sweet for us. There, that was a positive thought for today:-)

If anger is the cause ..why arent jails all over the world full of people with ALS/MND. There are a lot of angry people in jail. I do agree though, mnd has MADE me angry.

The premise of this pastor's belief as to why there is disease of any kind is that disease is the result of your sin and the sin of your "fathers." If you would just get right with God and follow this pastor's "blocks" to healing you will rid yourself of disease.
Why I've never heard of him, I don't know. His compound where he conducts his one week healing seminars is in middle Georgia in a very small town in the middle of nowhere.
This is the third time since my husband was dxd that someone has suggested ALS could be healed either with prayer, laying on of the hands, or now confessing sin and following some steps to healthiness. My husband has had some heated debate about techniques such as these. He is a cessationist.
cukita - I suppose this would be a very personal decision on your part. I for one don't believe ALS can be cured in this manner. However, if it makes you feel better that is what counts, as long as you are not being sucked out of loads of cash and you feel you could make a trip like this to podunk Georgia! I would be afraid if complications arose, there would be no nearby "worthy" facilities to handle a medical emergency for a pALS.

Belle ... I don't belong to any religion (although I have a very strong faith in a Higher Power), but I wanted to respond to you. I can imagine how ALS would test anyone's beliefs ... but I remember reading that Mother Teresa had doubts all her life, and questioned her faith a lot. I was amazed when I read that. I believe she was counseled by her spiritual advisers to continuing practicing her faith and follow her mission and she did an enormous lot of good for suffering people.
You are surely "acting your faith" by the care you are giving your husband. The mind does screwy things to us ... it wants human understanding of things that are way beyond human understanding. Faith takes over where our understanding leaves off.

Beth, beautifully expressed as usual. Thank you.
Belle, ALS is a very humbling experience and I truly wish my Dad never got it but I will forever be in awe of the absolutely incredible man he has shown himself to be in the face of this disease. It is an absolute honor to call him my Dad. He is brave and strong with a gentle soul. In the past, he has been a tough macho guy and not one to ever show his emotions. Of course being stricken with bulbar onset ALS and having emotional lability has revealed the affectionate loving father he had hidden behind his stiff upper lip. For now he is doing okay. He has not shown any signs of decline in the last 3 months and that is as you put it so well, "a positive thought for today."
I'm glad you found this forum. You will see that the people here are wonderful and generous and wise. :)

I have a good friend that was medically retired from the navy after being diagnosed with Parkinsons. His diagnosis was given by one of the top Parkinson specialist in the nation. Anyway, my friend was on the medication for the disease for several years.
Last year, he was gathered together with some friends for a prayer meeting and they prayed for his healing. The meeting wasn't for that specific purpose but that is what wound up happening.
My friend knew something had happened in that prayer meeting regarding his PD but continued taking the meds which started screwing him up. He stopped his medication, started feeling much better and had his annual check-up a few months later.
His doctor took a good look at him and asked, "Do you want to tell me what happened?"
My former shipmate said, "I really don't know what to say other than I had friends of mine pray for me and the disease left."
He didn't have to go out of town; it was a simple matter of being in the company of people of faith that were moved, in unison, to act on his behalf. It didn't cost him a dime, either. Something about, "Freely you've received - freely give."
Why this does not happen to everyone that is prayed for, I don't know but I believe something of a miracle happened to my navy pal. He says he got his life back.

After reading this thread, I want to chime in as well. So here is my take.
When I received the diagnosis, I wondered why me? I mean, I am a veggi (if that makes a difference), haven't smoked or drank alcohol ever, never had any medical problems and have done my bit to help environment, friends and neighbors. I even wondered if there was god (from any religion) or if it was just a matter of faith. After debating wthin myself, I stopped wondering, I stopped asking god for curing me or helping me. Now here I am, I just thank god for each day I get to see my 3 year old smile and go on to do daily work. All I can say that because of change in attitude, I am very happy.
just my 2cents.

Oh my goodness! My husband is the patient and has never had an angry day in his life. Now, I, on the otherhand, have no ALS symptoms and am the caregiver, and I get angry when I read post regarding ALS and an association or anger being a causitive factor.
When we pray; we are to pray with great expectancy and to believe that our God hears our prayers and will heal us. But..................there are times, as in my husbands case, that God says, my grace is sufficient. We do not and will not believe it is because of a lack of faith on our part that he is not healed nor do we believe it is because of anger issues.
We have the power, as God's word says, to heal ourselves with just praying with one other believer, in His name.

And just to clarify, I do not want to discourage anyone from prayer! We need all that we can get. But that does not mean pALS will be cured just for the asking.
Praying for researchers to be focused and genuinely want a cure - I do that every day!

I may have to clarify also, I am of course a big advocate of prayer and also believe in healing. I did not mean to sound like I DID NOT.
I just do not believe in someone coming in and the first thing they do is blame someone for being sick. These people blame you and say it is caused by ANGER OR YOU JUST DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH FAITH TO BE HEALED. Well folks that is what they use so when they lay hands on you and you do not get up and walk, IT IS BECAUSE OF YOUR UNBELIEF. Well that's great, you have this wonderful gift of healing but I am such a horrible person with unbelief that I am blocking your wonderful gift. People God did not send His Son to die for you so He could give someone a gift of Healing only to make us feel unworthy. Nothing from God should make you feel that way. If it does it is coming through an Ungodly person, plain and
simple. I have experienced this in the Church. People are always going to be people and there will always be the one who wants to stand out as special but usually it is the very humble little lady who makes my family dinner because she thinks I have had a bad week and surprises me and leaves it on my front porch with a note, NOW THAT'S FROM GOD.
Thelma, Having a close relationship with your Father is a priceless blessing. Maybe there is some miracle if only fleeting that you are seeing in his new normal.

Lostinlouisville, I could not agree more with what you have written. Thank you for your post. It was just what I needed to read this morning.
My grandmother was just like that humble little lady you describe and I have been lucky to have really great examples to live by. I am not a religious person but I am spiritual. I firmly believe in karma; that putting goodness out there only brings it back to you. It has been my experience that thinking positively, being grateful for the blessings I have, and being good and kind to myself and others has brought about the absolute best times in my life. My Dad is obviously making the best of his situation and he has been a stellar example of this. My whole family has commented on it. We are so lucky to have him!

I wouldn't take stock in the healer. My Rick, with ALS doesn't have an angry moment, is easy going, never raises his voice, and is gentle as a lamb. He didn't even get angry when he accidentally injured his leg in an explosion that was caused by someone else's carelessness. He didn't even sue either. He's never angry and he has ALS.
Anyway, we are born again believers, but we know that if this healing was of God, it would have to be a sure thing, not an occasional healing for only those that believe enough. If you pray alone or in a group right where you are, you will have the same result. You would be healed if it is meant to be. We aren't promised a bed of roses.... but are expected to bloom where we are planted. That means that we are to have a positive attitude and make the best of things.
Disease is not a punishment for the bad behavior of the individual.
Some use Miracles as a profession for monetary gain. Benny Hinn is the self "anointed" man of God, faith healer, pastor, and evangelist. But to some Christians, Benny Hinn is the most prolific heretic, false prophet, and false healer of our day. Even after being exposed by Dateline in 2002, Benny continues his healing and lavish lifestyle.
August 2008, Benny Hinn held two days of healing services at Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium. Attending those services was ALS patient Jimmie Stewart who left the Thursday service in a wheelchair pushed by his wife. His plan was to return on Friday with great expectations of being cured totally from ALS.
But when it was over, Stewart's health had not changed. "I'm really disappointed that I didn't get healed," Stewart said, but he emphasized that he enjoyed the nights in Raleigh, feeling the spirit in the room and the fellowship with other believers.
Then he left just as he arrived. On wheels.

God answers prayer, everyday and every minute of the day. We ask in failth believing.........he doesn't always answer prayer the way we want it to be answered. He answers in his way and in his time. We are all handed a death sentence, when we begin in our mothers womb the countdown begins. I have talked to alot of people who think "GOD" is "PUNISHING" them for things they have done in their life. That isn't my God, when god chastises you, believe me you know he is doing it and you know WHAT you have done wrong.
