PM mail box -- how to delete?

I see that my PM box is 96% full. I keep deleting messages to try to open it up, but the percentage never changes.

When I try to delete, I get a "soft deletion" option, but I can't un-check it.

There are two boxes, Inbox and Sent which must be emptied. I'm guessing you're only deleting the Inbox.
