Hi all, I'm looking for advice as to dealing with constipation. My dear friend with ALS is having an awful time with this. I imagine certain foods would be helpful for prevention, but what to do when he's having the problem? Thanks for any help anyone can offer,

What I use the most is a product called "Benefiber". It dissolves completely in any liquid, even water and has no taste that I can detect. They say you can even add it to food. I just add it to my coffee or water. Couple of tablespoons seems to be about right for me. Works in about 8 to 12 hours, Just softens things. Not like some of the products that have me rushing to get to the bathroom.

My daughter (a nurse) recommends psyllium. A Herbal remedy you should be able to get at a drug store or health food store.
