Yes, Charlie is still alive. He chose life over death and decided to ignore the medical community who believed he could not have a good quality of life on a trache and vent.

I just read this great article on Charlie Wedemeyer in the Los Angeles Times from a few days ago. A truly inspiring story.

He shows silent strength in guiding Los Gatos football team -- latimes.com (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-charlie-wedemeyer30-2009oct30,0,7121734.story)

Charlie and Lucy's story is amazing. We have produced a wonderful award winning DVD titled "Courage to Live: The Story of Charlie & Lucy Wedemeyer." It was shot over a 16 year period. It not only has their story but a section where they talk about ALS and give advice to families; a section titled Words of Encouragement with them and Zig Ziglar; and a section about a man teaching teenagers about overcoming adversity through their story. It also has a short piece from Kale Wedemeyer talking to children of ALS patients. The DVD has clips from the PBS documentary "One More Season" and the CBS film "Quiet Victory" and features Zig Ziglar, Stephen Hawking, Pam Dawber, Joe Gibbs and others talking about Charlie & Lucy, ALS, faith, etc. You can check it out and watch some video clips at: Courage to Live: The Story of Charlie & Lucy Wedemeyer (http://www.couragetolive.com)
I know this sounds like a brazen sales pitch but this DVD is special like Charlie & Lucy who are still struggling every day to survive and remain a tremendous inspiration to all of us. They are dear friends who have been through so much it is hard to comprehend. Blessings to all.
