TV Technology?

I've been searching old threads, but can't seem to find anything about this. If it's out there, I'm happy to be directed!

My mom can't project her voice any longer, and has gotten to the point where she's not able to operate a t.v. remote control (We've tried various types, but her fingers don't really move anymore).

I saw in an ALS packet something about devices where you can program the tv to change channels automatically. Has anyone heard of something like this? She's home for the day while I'm teaching, so the t.v. is her entertainment!

We do have a new LCD HD t.v., if that helps. I've tried to google this and can't find anything. Is there something that could be hooked up through the computer and cable?
