Has anyone out there ever heard of pneumonia as an early symptom of ALS? I know it can be a later symptom.

I have never heard that one. You'd have to be in bad shape for anyone to make an ALS connection or dx from pneumonia. You'd have noticed a whole lot of bad things before that.
