I read every post about muscle atrophy on here and didn't really know whether or not atrophy happens in muscles that don't fasciculate.
I have noticed that the muscles in my lower back and lower abs seem smaller but I never get fasics there. Is that possible? Are those muscles that other people have seen atrophy as a first sign?
The only muscles that I notice that are weaker are in my one upper arm. I think they've gotten smaller but I hardly ever feel fasics in them. Therefore, I hardly get fasics in my affected (i.e. weak) arm. I do get occassional fasics in my calves and thighs and every once in a while in my arms but not that often. Is that typical?
I have also developed monoclonus (not clonus) . . . that is . . . large twitches that move entire limbs . . . the kind you get when you're about to fall asleep and they startle you awake. They only happen when I lay down at night. Is monoclonus an early sign of ALS? I searched for it on here but couldn't find anyone posting about it.
