My mom is in final stages of ALS and I have noticed she seems to have trouble keeping eye lids up. Is this something that is common? I never thought about eyelids being affected.

I remember reading on one of our earlier threads that one family had to tape their PAL's eyelids open. I guess it makes sense- they are muscles, too, right?

My mum is end stage ALS as well and she has the same issue with her eyes. Sometimes I think she has fallen asleep!

I have the opposite problem. My eyes don't close all the way, and therefore, become dry and painful.

well I can understand wanting to tape eyes open - I hope it goes w/o saying that you'd need a fine mist saline to wet their eyes - right??
A small steril kind I have used for eye injuries is called:
"Nature's Tears" an all natural, soothing eye mist.
call 1.800.for.mist or go to www.naturestears.com

I just know if my eyes are dry, it's not a comfortable situation...
Hope I've helped some PALS with this suggestion
