View Full Version : Have you been tested for Western Lyme

My daughter asked me to post this . My son=-in-law was tested for Lyme way back before dx. About 10 months ago he went to a Lyme Specialist and was dx with Western Lyme. He was on Ceftriaxone but it caused Tremors and Stomach problems.. couldn't tolerate it. Dr. said the Western Lyme brought on the ALS. What I want to point out is that if you haven't had a dx and have not been tested for Western Lyme have the test done,tests are sent to California for results. The symptoms mimic ALS!!! If the lymes causes the ALS--can there be stop to the disease symptoms progressing? My husband has been checked for lymes twice. I think that everyone gets tested for that to rule it out before the ALS dx. Are you saying that you can have it even if being tested and that if you do--something can be done about it? OR is there a difference between western lymes and a general lymes test?

Hi, Yes there is a difference between the normal Lyme test and Western Lyme. Jack too was tested for Lyme to rule out ALS. Someone we know suggested we go to a Lyme Dr. There he was tested for western lyme and it was positive. ALS had already progressed. For those without a dx it may be a good idea to be tested for the Western Lyme. Hope I didn't confuse anyone. Symptoms do mimic ALS. My Best to you, Beebe

Hi there, Do you have a lot of snow??? We are suppose to have a storm coming this weekend, had a lot of rain and cold. Busy with my Kids Stephanie is now on Intravenous Chemo, Unfortunately she is losing her hair. She has a wig, looks good. She is feeling good, if only Jack would let her sleep at night. He is going to get a feeding tube soon, before his breathing is too low. Life is very busy here. How are you doing?? Fondly, Beebe

Hi Beebe,
I think I'm understanding--but I have another question. Since it IS Western Lymes--does that mean something can be done for Jack? Or, once you've progressed to a certain point, there is no stopping the progress? And, at what point (if that is true) is it too late? I'm trying to determine whether I should even suggest to my husband that he take another test.
By the way, We don't get snow too much in our region, I miss the snow. Sounds beautiful.

Thanks for the update on Stephanie and Jack, Beebe. You guys certainly have your hands full down there! I'd say "take care" but that seems so lame, given the circumstances. Maybe I should say "take care and care abd care!:-D" Cindy
