Hello everyone, I am new here and I have a few questions that I hope some of you can help me with. I have an aunt who was dx about a year ago with ALS. She does not have any movement in her arms or legs and is now using a feeding tube. She is unable to speak and uses a communication device, which has been great. However, she is having an awful time with biting her tongue. She often does it while sleeping, talk about a bad way to wake yourself up! Her ALS specialist has given her a Rx, but it does not seem to be helping much. I was just wondering if anyone here could offer any suggestions.

Thank you for your time,

Jimmy

Hi, I am new to the group as well and have Bulbar ALS. I too have a problem with biting my tongue at night. Last week my mouth was quite sore but now it's better. I have been thinking of having a tooth removed which would perhaps eliminate the problem. Has anyone done that and did it help?

some people get mouth guards to keep from biting their tongue and inside of cheeks. Kind of like football players wear except more refined. You can ask your dentist too, because they custom make them too. we got one from Drugstore.com for about $20. Here s a link to one that is $45, other places will have for cheaper probably.

good luck, Beth (CALS to husband Shannon)

if you type tongue or tongue biting into the 'search' at top of page you will get 4 pages of previous posts about tongues stuff....

Haha Carlof,

Well I like my teeth and I don't think I would go for that option even though I regularly bite my tongue while eating or talking but never while sleeping.
One time I was eating meat and I ended up almost eating my tongue, even a small piece of it was completely out so I put it back into the hole ;)
Does anyone also face tongue biting while eating?

Omar
