Hi,
Don't know if weight loss is common with ALS however I lost 40lbs pre-diagnosis. Had Cramps and fasciculation (twitches) although had no pain other than the cramps and they go away. Your friend should see a neurologist and then get an emg test. It is not a perfect science but is better than guessing. If your friend has the beast the ALS societys and clinic are able to bring some piece to her life plus ensure she is pain free. I still have no pain after 2 years. Hope this helps.
