Hi everyone

Has anyone heard of having an abnormal EMG and it turned out to be something other than ALS? My EMG showed active denervation of the thoracic paraspinal muscles, which is indicative of a MND according to my neuro. Does anyone know if there is anything else besides a MND or trauma that could cause this the denervation? I have googled it and all the research just points to MNDs...

Thanks for any information!-
Lisa

Lisa,

there are several things that can show active denervation, but, you need to ask, what did they see?

Was it Fibs & PSW's and some Axon Loss. Those are ALS signs, but still can be in other problems.

There is no one test to confirm ALS, so, you must look at other symptoms, like...increased reflexes is pretty specific to ALS. Also, atrophy, weakness in the setting of an abnormal EMG.

I hope it's something else.

Rgds,

Jamie
